Hi, I want to get new speakers to hook up to my laptop for music and the occasional DVD.

    I've a Budget of around €400 euro.

I'm pretty impressed by the Bose companion 5 and 3 multimedia system, but I can't help but feel I'm paying mostly for the name Bose and not the sound quality they give.

Can anybody suggest what they think is the best speaker system for around this price? Thanks!

TBH mate 400 euro is waaayyyy to much to be spending on computer speakers

Make your way to pc world and pick up a pair for 80 euro and youll be well impressed

Ah but to be honest I'm a bit of a sound Geek and willing to pay 50% extra for that extra 10% in quality you know?

The way I figure is I listen to music for hours each day so I better get the best delivery system I can...

I already have a logitech system which is really good but can distort and has a REALLY boomy bass sound. They cost me €100 euros a few years back.

Thanks for the reply though! Anybody out there use ridiculously priced speakers?

I'm planning on using B&W XT2's with Naim amplification at some point in the near future if that's any use.

If you are looking at bose, Id consider the Focal XS speakers which probably actually work.
    Vague indication on price:

I have a pair of Usher speakers which cost around 8k Euro. That probably sounds ridiculous to some but I know of people who have speakers twice that price or more!

You're right about Bose though. Very overpriced for the sound quality that they give. Nereid's recommendation above is not bad actually. Focal are a decent brand. Actually Focal also offer speakers that cost well over 100,000k, if that's not too ridiculous for you! :D;)

I bought a set of cheap studio monitors. I like them a lot. They have a nice full sound. I am happy to use them without a sub woofer. It would be sweet but perhaps a bit too expensive to add for PC audio. They are great for playing games and listening to music. I think the €100 pc world surround sound dealys are usually missing a lot of midrange. Just lots of highs and lows.
