Where Do I Include This On CV / Cover Letter?

Hoping to apply for a job in the very near future that I really want. So my CV is getting looked at carefully. Cover Letter will also be done soon but first things first. I have been operating a website (and everything that goes with that) since November '08 - not a business. However, I have developed skills that I worked on in college and that would be useful in the workplace (and worthwhile highlighting).

However, where do I put this experience? Do I make a paragraph in the cover letter where I talk about skills that I posess that would relate to the position? Should I dedicate part of my CV to it (which is a bit tight on space as is...)? Many of the duties and requirements of the role are things that I do on a daily basis.....

    Any help appreciated!

What sort of job are you applying for?

PR assistant in gaming or another industry?

If it's in gaming then include it. If not, then I wouldn't. There's still quite a social stigma towards gaming. However, you could be lucky and the interviewer could be keen on gaming. Personally I don't include anything like it on my CV unless I would be applying to gaming industry or related somehow.

It is in gaming as luck would have it. I have a section in CV that's on Awards and Skills. Thinking that a couple of paragraphs under that are a bit of filler so perhaps slot it in there with a suitable heading. The only worry I then have is an employer looking at how involved I am and wondering if it will distract me from the day job (will I be moonlighting while at work) or if I will want to stick out the job that they are paying me for...

Argh! Seems like something I would enjoy...And don't want to screw up the initial impression...

As it is unrelated to your current role, I would not mention it in either your CV or cover letter.

If they bring up questions about your technical skills in the interview, you can impress them by saying you've been making websites for years.

It's in the same industry so surely it shows he has an interest in that line of work?

Thing is it's not the website development that I am involved in - moreso research, writing articles and releases, contacting members of the community, promotion and so on. So there would be some overlapping duties between my hobby role and this job position.

OK. You could put it in either your cover letter or CV so.

Personally I would just mention it in my cover letter.
