Sky+HD Subscription Question.

    Hi All,

I currently have a Sky HD subscription. The 12 months will be up in a couple of months. If I decide to cancel the HD sub, will I loose ALL HD channels? I'm having grief getting my pre-HDCP display to provide 720p via the Sky HDMI, and if I can't get that to happen the only benefit of HD is the 5.1 audio which is probably not worth the €15 per month given the selection of channels.

What HD channels will remain if I pull the HD sub?

Take the card out and wait, hit backup to clear any errors.

Possibly only BBC HD and Lux HD?

No recording or playback of existing recordings, even of free channels.

Is there much C4 HD or ITV HD?

    BBC HD
ITV HD when its broadcasting (need to tune into other channels)
    Lux HD

    Thanks.

Looks like I'll have to keep the HD sub - if only for the 5.1 - makes a big difference on SBO HD and is good for a big game on Sky Sports. If I could sort the HDCP problem then I'd feel far more justified in keeping the HD sub. At the moment I'm watching HD channels via S-video - good but could be so much better!

My question is kinda related to this so I'm not bothering to start a new thread.

I don't understand all the technical stuff in the OP's post above. I've just ordered Sky+HD and I'm wondering if it will work on my TV? My TV is HD ready as opposed to Full HD. What's the difference? Do I need to do something to my telly before the HD will work.

    F

p.s. to the OP, I rang SKY and bargained them down on price, so I'm getting the first year HD for free, i.e. no 14.75 per month. If you want to keep it might be worth ringing them up and seeing what they can do for you. Speak to the programming department. Best of Luck!

5.1 is available on the movie channels with bare bones Sky+

All HD broadcasts are in 720p (1080x720) which is the max resolution of a HD Ready TV so you will have no problems.
Full HD is 1080p (1920x1080) and as far as I know only available to us mortals from blu-ray dics and the ill-fated HD-DVD.

    Hope that helps. ;)

Sky HD is 1080i not 720p but the hd box will downscale the resolution for 720p tv's if needed.

Thanks, I assumed that 5.1 was only via HD channels.

Once your TV displays Full HD, HD Ready or HDMI then you can connect to the HD output on your Sky+HD box. The quality of the picture displayed will depend on your TV's resolution - this will be detailed in specifications section of the manual. If you don't have the manual google you TVs make and model number which should be listed on a label at the rear of the TV.

You will not have to pay any €14.75 and did you get the box for €49 +€50 for wiring. What did you say and did it take long for them to offer you this + what is the number and what are the opions numbers to prees.

    Thanks,

    That's a hell of a deal.
Did you have the full sky world package?

Surely you can cancel your HD subscription only and keep your sky sub? This way you get to keep your hd box without the sky hd channels. Ok you loose the hd channels and any recordings you have made of them but I would have thought the other recordings are ok as you are still paying for the channels. You could look at the "free" HD ones and still get the upscaling advantage on the non-HD channels. Is this correct???

Can you get a SKY+ HD Box without getting having to pay the monthly cost of €14.75. I know if i buy it off adverts.ie or ebay, i just have to pair my card. But i will need another LNB and another wire as i don't have SKY+.

Or, stop the HD cost after three months, is this possible

Yea that will work (that is how i got it)

you will have to put in another cable and new quad lnb.
(easy job if you can access the dish)

I am just asking can i get a SKY+ HD Box from SKY Ireland, as it is cheap at €49 and Installation only €50. Or, can i stop the HD Subscription say after three months or will they ask for the box to be returned. I don't what SKY HD Subscription as i have not purchased a HD TV yet, but plan to next year.

You can only get a €50 Sky HD box if you pay the €15 HD Subscription and sign a 12 month contract.

Exactly - and the 12 month contract includes the HD sub.

My HD contract is up in 10 or 12 weeks but if the HD Fury gizmo works out and I like the look of the 720p then I'll probably stick with the HD sub. I'm using an S-Video link at the moment and the higher quality on the HD channels can still be clearly seen.

Does anybody know what sky would do if you broke the 12 month contract on the HD subscription? They'd hardly bring you to court!!!
