Need support for broken WD drive

I have a 500GB WD hard-drive which appears to have stopped working. The power light on the transfomer is flashing so I presume that's okay but the drive won't power on and my Mac can't see it when I connect.

It's just over a year old and it's rarely moved and has never been dropped. I'm guessing a powersurge but the other devices which are plugged into the same extension lead, with the drive, are working fine.

Anyone have similar problems or know if it's possible to fix the drives?

Generally external drives are not servicable at least according to the manufacturers but you could try cracking open the casing and taking out the drive and connecting it internally. External drives are usually just internal IDE/SATA drives hooked into a casing
