I want to create a Doyle's Megamix playlist. What songs do they always play there?

    MGMT - Time To Pretend
Rage Against the Machine - Time to Pretend

    ???

That kings of Leon song...well, several of them. Can't think of the names. Fuuck, I go to Doyles far too much and I can't even remember the songs they constantly play there.

You mean Killing in the Name?

Back when I was a lad they used play Smells Like Teen Spirit mixed with Debaser.

I remember several renditions of Idioteque and Blister in the Sun. always got a whirl. I remember giving one boardsie a hug to Sex on Fire.

Hotel Yorba followed by I've Got My Mind Set On You used to be the finale.

Exactly. I'll check out everything that's added here and make a nice list for us to use. I probably won't be there myself this week, but try to take note of what's playing.
And, yeah, Killing in the Name!

Somebody.... Sex on fire....I've heard them 2 definitely.

What's the attraction with Doyles and trinity heads? I know it's beside Trinity but I always thought the pints were off and that the atmosphere wasn't that lively. Also that DJ is always frowning. Am I missing something? I'll probably have to acclimatise if I get Trinity (Post LCer here)

There are certain songs they just don't play if it's busy: Teen Spirit being one. The rafters start creaking when everyone is jumping up and down. It's quite scary being downstairs.

Oh my. The Guinness in Doyles is excellent. Possibly acclimatisation is at play here, but I'd nearly prefer the pints in Doyle's than in Mulligan's.
and that the atmosphere wasn't that lively.
It's just right. Nice and busy downstairs, plenty of encouragement for a bit of craic upstairs, but also grand if you just want to go have a laugh with your mates. Doyles FTW.
Also that DJ is always frowning.
    Oh, well then.

That pretty much sums up the atmosphere and environment of Doyles, it's also just a great spot for starting off a night proper (i.e. after cans in a house/pav, Doyles, then wherever). Regarding music, KOL get a fair bit of air time, I've also heard a bit of the old Arctic Monkeys being played as well, I think the last song I heard there from them was "Fluorescent Adolescent".

Guinness good - other stuff not necessarily. Number of nights in my youth I ended up drinking whiskey in there because they were pulling pints from multiple taps upstairs. mmm.....HeineMiller is not a pleasant thought.

The last time I was in there, which may very well be the last time you where in there, the Guinness was terrible. Stale and horrible.

I had a few great pints of Guinness in there recently actually.

Okay so Guinness is the nice one to pick there. I've had Bulmers and Carlsberg there on 2 different occasions and both weren't nice.

Fair enough. me and my mates always tend to go upstairs. I guess it's because I'm not in Trinity (yet) that I can't really appreciate the place.
    Oh, well then.
Let the DJ concentrate on the music.

Come to think of it I barely went there with people from trinity last year. A few mates from DCU are practically in love with the place so I've gone there a lot with them. If you start to go there regularly it'll seduce you too. Used to be (kinda still is) pretty pricey. Some good deals there now.

I've had some nice pints in there, but it's not consistently nice. It used to be that if you went to a specific tap you'd get a decent pint, but no more. Every pint is a roll of the dice, and at fiver euro for a Guinness, it's just not worth the risk.

    More songs, people.

Double-vodka redbull is 9.80. They go really well with the music.

Doyles is terrible I've never spending another buck in there.

    Killers - Mr. Brightside

Pixies - Where is my Mind?

I'm done with Doyles. If I can help it, I'll never go back there.

I had flashbacks of Acceptable in the 80s and that "We. Are. Your friends." song today. Both involved dancing in Doyles.

Brimful of Asha? I'm just guessing here.

I'm a fan of Doyles. Dunno why, exactly; it just seems to attract a less spanner-ish crowd than a lot of other places, and I like the music. Plus, it's really easy to sneak alcohol in, so by the time I have to drink their crappy Bulmers I can't taste it anymore.

    Songs:
Close To You - The Cure
Standing In The Way Of Control - The Gossip
    Kids - MGMT
    Black Betty - Ram Jam

Will doubtless think of more soon enough.

    9 to 5 - Dolly Parton

    Thriller - Michael Jackson

I don't think I've ever been in there when they didn't play those two songs.

Painted Black - whoever sings Painted Black...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,163 ✭✭✭✭Boston

Several versions of paint it black. Is it heavy, is it light, can you hear the lyrics?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,764 ✭✭✭shay_562

    It's the Stones version.

I've heard D.A.N.C.E. by Justice in there quite a bit too, now that I think of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,375 ✭✭✭fonpokno

You can hear the lyrics yes but you can only half understand them...

Youtube tells me it's the Rolling Stones one!

    Boys dont cry-the Cure
    Sex on Fire-Kings of Leon
    Blitzkrieg Bop-Ramones
    No-One Knows-Quotsa

Doyles=great atmosphere but used to have no seats upstairs anytime after 9.30 which sucked! Heard its quieter now tho? Also, stale pints :(

I'm sure I've heard Late of the Pier on a couple of occassions as well, but I don't remember the specific song, guessing it was the bears are coming, in any case not Focker (unfortunately)

Can't believe I forgot - "Chelsea Dagger" by The Fratellis. There was a while when that seemed to play twice a night; it still pops up from time to time now.
