Speakers or HI FI with PS3

Hi - Just wondering if somebody can reccomend a Hi FI or speakers that work well with the PS3? Im currently connecting the HD cable to the TV from the PS3 but I'm just wondering how this would work? Connect the PS3 seperatly to the HI-FI / Speakers or to the TV?

I use my samsung surround sound system for my tv.

It has an "Optical connection" so i get 5.1 surround with my PS3. i got mine for about €250, its 2 years old now....so they should be cheaper now
