    Hi

Just discussing with some other engaged friends, the possibility of buying a 2nd hand dress. We were split in our opinion on whether you'd go for it. some of the girls wanted to be the first to wear their wedding dress and keep it for years to come. I was thinking it was a way to cut down on the wedding budget bu getting an amazing 2nd hand dress...or preloved as I heard one person call it!

What do you think...is 2nd hand a possibility for a wedding dress?

I was going to but unfortunately wasn't having a lot of luck finding something that suited, and it was late ordering from a shop but luckily I got a rush order through.
If you are thinking of it, leave yourself plenty of time so that if you have to you can go ahead and order from a shop anyway.

I am actually selling my dress now, and if you look at the discussion 'buy and sell' section in weddingsonline.ie you will find the wedding dress sale event which is in 2 weeks time, there is a list of dresses there with sizes and details. It may be of interest to you?

....and then they put it in storage and it never sees the light of day again. At the end of the day it's a dress.2nd hand would definitely be an option. Also look into a DIY job, my OH bought the materials herself, bought the pattern on the internet and brought it to a seamstress to knock together. Brand new dress, exactly what she wants for less than €200.

My sister fell in love with a brand new wedding dress for €1300. Before buying the expensive one she looked at weddingsonline.ie and saw a very similar pre-loved dress for €500. It suits her to a tee. It is fantastic and she has an extra €800 to spend on the honeymoon!! In fairness the dress was only worn for one day previously so I would say go for it if you are lucky enough to find one that fits and suits you.

You could try Oxfam on Georges Street - they have a dedicated second-hand bridal dress service, and I've heard great things about the dresses. I think it's been discussed in this forum before, perhaps do a search for it.

    Good luck! :)

I shot a wedding on Friday where the bride had bought an amazing dress from the Oxfam shop in Dun Laoghaire. It was a 2 piece outfit with corset style top and a dress. The corset top can be with a slight modification or two be worn again so she has really got value for money.

No-one knew it was 2nd hand and it went down a treat.

Nobody watching is ever going to know!
I probably will want to keep my dress after but would love to find a second hand dress that was what I am looking for. Some wedding dresses are way too expensive....

Bytheway, the shop in Dun Laoghaire is Barnardos, and it's Oxfam in Georges St. I went to both but Barnardos in Dun Laoghaire had a MUCH better selection, although a friend of mine did get hers in Oxfam.

I never even considered it for my day although I may have found one that I liked if I looked. I got to wear my dress twice, once for the wedding day and once for my trash the dress day.

Some people keep their dresses and have christening gowns or communion dresses made out of them. I couldnt do that with mine as it is champagne rather than white but I'd like to keep it and maybe one day one of my girls might wear it, even if it is just for fancy dress or something, maybe I might even take their photograph in it in years to come.

I got my dress in debenhams in the sale...it was €970 but got it for €128 in the sale...cost me €40 to get it taken in...and it was lovely...threw it in the washing machine after..came out just fine...I went to Bernardos with my sister when she was getting married and their dresses are fab...definately worth a look..going back to your question...personally i think wearing a 2nd hand dress is cool. All that really matters is how you feel about it!! good luck with the big day!
