    How much of a role do the teachings of the bible play in your life? Im finding it difficult to understand some of it such as :

    Deuteronomy 22:28-29 (King James Version)

    28If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;
    29Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.

    I ask this as a women searching for a religion after years of being led astray I have begun attending church and reading the bible again. But I feel the bible is outdated, can it be changed?

    The Christian view is that we interpret the Old Testament in the light of the New Testament, and particularly in light of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

    Much of the Old Testament, particularly in the first five books (the Pentateuch), laid down laws that the Israellites were to live by thousands of years ago as they tried to survive as a tribe surrounded by hostile enemies.

    I would advise you to start off by reading the Gospels, then the rest of the New Testament. After that you will find the Old Testament makes more sense and it's easier to discern what is of historical interest and what can help you live your life today.
