Old school books

Does anyone know of any non-wasteful ways to get rid of old primary and secondary school books? Some of them would be almost 20 years old so I don't think any schools would take them! My first thought was to just recycle them but then I thought they might have a bit more life in them yet. I also had a quick look at some donation sites but they all seem to be based in the US or have strict requirements e.g. hardbacks only. Thanks in advance!

Have the same issue myself, finally having a big clear out, and have come across a load of old school books, seems a waste to throw em out, as most of them are about 5 yrs old, i think i remember trying to sell them to a second hand school book shop who took a fair few off me, but it looks like i just threw what i was left with into a press and forgot about them. Its kinda stupid the way schools change their books almost every year for an updated version of the same book!

Judging by the response to your post.. they'll be going into the green bin!

    You could try www.youthreach.ie.

Alternatively, www.schoolbookexchange.ie might be able to help you out - I see on their homepage they're looking for books to donate to schools in Kenya.
