I haven't had an eye exam since I was a child, I have recently noticed head aches and straining etc so it's time to get them checked.

Just wondering what to expect, how long will it take, how many separate exams should there be and how much will it cost?

    Hi,
Generally the eye test for the drivers report will only test if you meet the legal standards. It will not tell you if you have a prescription or check things like the muscles in your eyes to see if these are causing the headaches.
Eyetests are generally around the €25 mark or so. If you have been paying full PRSI you can get a free eyetest. Same for on the medical card. Most health insurers have a plan that will refund you up to a certain amount towards the cost of the test and glasses if needed.

    Hope this helps

Will they give you an eye prescription for that (thus enabling you to buy specs online) or do they crank up the price if you don't buy glasses from them?

No one charges extra for the prescription (although legally they can) but to be honest if it is your first pair of glasses, you are better off getting it made up by an opticians in case there are any problems.

For the PRSI, if you ring in with your PPS number they can find out within 2/3 days if you qualify.
