renovated an old pen this year using site panels which can be bought at around €20 second hand used chicken wire and scaffolding netting as a top netting. Then 7 x1 timber around the base and provided cover using branches. Send me an e mail and I'll send on some pictures. It is 22ft x 16 ft and 8ft high.

I setup a pen last year for 40 pheasant poults in much the same fashion as cavan shooter discribed it was made from security fencing panels and was one panel wide and three long the inside was lined with 1" chicken wire and the top was covered with safety netting the area in which the birds roosted in was covered with galvanize sheeting and i had a lot of perches in underneath this i had 2 feeders and one drinker it worked really well and all the birds grew up to be nice and healthy and not one died.
This year i expanded the pen to twice this size and planted trees in the pen as cover there is 72 poults in there at the moment which the club bought last saturday they all seem to be doing very well and there is plenty of space in there for them.Im no expert by any means but this way of rearing the birds seems to be working out well.
I can post some pic's if you want to see them.

I built a small release pen back in March for 40 to 50 birds. It was a small orchard once. now its just a rough corner off a field that had been fenced off from the cattle.

The stuff was mostly recycled posts etc. The most expensive bit was the wire. I built a temporary release pen there the year before to make sure I had an area the birds would use. I built it on my own and it took around three full days. It should last for 10 or more years if I keep on top of the maintenance each spring.

    Mallards.
