Hey all, I have a rally mountain bike that been in the shed for the last say 4/5 years. Pretty decent bike, did the job but after years of sitting there I'd say it will need a service, new tires and tubes.

What sort of cost would I be looking at for the work?

    Thanks

Shouldn't cost a fortune but will set you back a little none the less!

New tyres: Eur20-30 each for anything reasonable to good
    Tubes: Eur7-10 each
Brake/Gear Cables (if not hydraulic brakes): Eur3-5 each
Professional tune up and fitting of all the above: Eur30-50
    Lubes and greases: Eur10
Can of the ever useful WD40:Eur3

Try tuning it yourself as its piss easy and will save you the fifty!

It really is that easy just take your time and research what needs to be done you can also get all the parts necessary delivered from online stores which also allow you to compare the prices

    Few more newb questions:

    1. How do ya know if a tyre needs changing? There is some cracks in the rubber when totally deflated, is this a problem?
    2. Is there any locking nuts or similar to stop people removing the wheel if I left my bike locked up in town?
    3. U-Lock or chain? Which is better?
Sorry for all the questions, I appreciate the advice!
