Came across details of this on the athleticsleinster site. I've added it into the running fixtures, but giving it a mention here just in case anyone a) might be interested and b) doesn't notice it in the fixture list.

should be a good race alright..... been told it is a two lap course that starts outside the main gate to avondale house and finishes inside the estate..... loadsa hills around this area but course is supposed to be pretty fair......

i always like the early sunday morning races cos it allows u to have the rest of the day to do ur own thing :)

Is there a link to a website giving details of this race?

Just giving this a bump up just in case someone, particularly Wicklow based, is interested but not aware of it.

I'll be there to take a few snaps, kiddysitting for weekend.

As I'll be in Dublin, I may go to this depending on state of hangover - 10.30 is early though.

What sort of field is it, mixed ability?
Can I register on the day and if so, what time do they stop registration?

I've done nothing all week, but wouldn't be a bad chance to test the knee out.

    *Bump*

    Anyone with answers to above?

It doubles as a Leinster race and an open race, and they are promoting family stuff so there will probably be a good mix of ability. You'll be able to register in the morning and I think the registration opens at eight, so i'd imagine (don't hold me to this) you could register up until 10 or so. Maybe SJ might know more in the way of detail.

If you haven't done a club organised 10k before i'd say this would be a good one to do with plenty of participants in a good location. And there's a bonus if you break 30 minutes

    Thanks for that.
I won't be breaking the 30 mins, thats for sure. Looking for a sub-45 at some point this year, so will see how it goes.
Was just wary that it could be a pretty top class field, but the family stuff give me more reassurance that I won't be last ;)

Any details on where exactly the start is - is it the middle of town, or out a particular road.
Coming from the west, I have zero knowledge of Wicklow towns and roads, so if I do get my ass out of bed in time on Sunday, I don't want to get lost.

This is pretty much all i know...but there is map on there. And if you are aiming for a sub 45; you have nothing to worry about, that's good running.

Thanks asiminov. I don't have any more details than you've provided. Gammy ankle permitting I'll be there on the start line.

Hi guys .....for any of u that have run cross country around that very difficult course at Avondale House ye will know what I'm talking about when I say that registration is supposed to be at the gate lodge just as u go into into the grounds and car park at the house..........

the organisers have said that it is gonna be a two lap course, starting just outside the main gate to the gate lodge, so I would imagine that it'll be a circuit that will take in the road up past the car dealership and gaa place.........

i stand to be corrected but this seems the most logical course to me, having run that downhill 5k race there...

    sub 30 minutes......wow that's very impressive.

I'm going to give it a bash but if I break 50 minutes I'll be happy.

Nice race this morning. Route was good. The wind made it difficult nay impossible to achieve even pacing. Was happy to break 40 mins as I'm neither 100% nor doing any dedicated 10k / speed training. Nice to meet fellow Boardsies and local / imra runners. Martin Francis ran near 62 mins in the 10 mile yesterday and still ran well today. I don't know where he gets his energy.

Good race, with a course that was pretty tough but made tougher by a fierce headwind for about 4k. Well marshalled with tea and sandwiches afterwards in the grounds. The estate is stunning, had a great warm down run through the woods afters. Won by josephat boit, less than 24 hours after winning the 10 miler yesterday!

Managed to get out of bed & make it down to the race, and was fine during warm-up.
Knee trouble flared up in the 3rd km, tried to run through it, but the pain just got worse.
Decided to pull out, so hobbled round to the finish, walking most of the last 1500m. :(
Was a challenging course, so doubt I would have set a good time anyway.

Disappointed, but not surprised, just gonna have to spend the time on fixing it up with stretches & strengthening exercises.
The only plus being that it was 2 laps of 5k, meaning I didn't have to walk 7k back.

Didn't wait around cos I had to drive back to Galway, so missed out on the grub.
