Sizing a bike

Had a look on the forums but couldn't find anything in relation to sizing up a frame for a mountain bike.

I measured my leg at 86cm. From here it's Frame Size (cm) = inseam x 0.56 Which in my case is 48.16cm = 18.96063 inches.

Would a 18inch frame suit me then or should I go bigger?

It really depends on the frame and how you like to ride your bikes. My inseam is 80cm and I ride a 16.5 inch mountain bike which is an inch below that calculator's recommendation.

These calculators are more of a guideline or starting point than some gold standard. Have a look at some different 18 inch mountain bikes and when you settle on one, get properly sized up in the shop. You may feel more comfortable on a 17 or a 19 inch, it comes down to a bit more than simply leg length.

I understand that they are for guideline really. So one might have very long logs and shorts arm/body, which I assume also come into the equation of getting a comfortable bike.

I won't be to far out getting an 18inch bike, give or take a an inch either way.
