Data bending?

    Anyone know anything about "data bending"? I think that's what it's called...

    I've only done it a few times, in a really basic way.
    I opened a photo in MS Paint, saved it as a .TIF, opened it in WordPad, randomly deleted a few sections of the text, saved it, opened in MS Paint again, and re-saved as a bitmap.

    Now I really enjoyed playing around with pictures this way, but the results weren't so good - too messy and too random. Has anyone played around with this sort of stuff? I'd love a bit of info or "theory" on it, or some links would be cool. I haven't found anything on t'internet, because I don't really know what to type into Google.
