Single Honours or Major/Minor Question for 2nd Year.

Looking for advice from people in the know.

Going into 2nd Year Arts having completed a Double Honours in English and History in 1st Year. I was exempt from a third subject in Arts because I transferred from another University.

I received a grade of 680/1000 for History and found out I was eligible to transfer into Single Honours History MH113 (probably MH213 in 2nd year) for Second Year. Now, according to the NUIM Website, there are two routes which one can take on this path.

Route One - Single Honours History.
Route Two - Major/Minor, where you receive 40 credits in your Major and 20 in your Minor.

However, there are no details about what subjects you do if you go either path, except for the 2 compulsary subjects you must do, as well as the 2 optional ones.

My question is this, surely you don't do 4 subjects for Single Honours History, so where are the remaining modules to make up the 60 credits (Route one) or 40 credits (Route two)?

Also, is there anyone out there who is doing either route and can they give me some information on their experience thus far with either path?

I would greatly appreciate any help! :)

EDIT: I would like to add that the reason I am considering this over Arts, is because I intend on pursuing a Post-Graduate course in History.

By subjects here, do you mean modules? I'm a little confused.....but then again I'm not in the know about this. Best thing would be to ring the History Dept.:)

While I can't help you with your problem, I can endorse MH113 with major *thumbs up*. In first year there were 16/17 of us, and like anyone who has had any dealings with the History Dept. we've all got nothing but praise for it. I think a lot of us are hoping we become part of a larger group of single honours students in 2nd Year as I presumed we would.

I'll have a rummage through the stacks of papers upstairs for answers!

    Hi,

Privateeye is right MH113 is for kings :D:D its a really good group of skulls all of whom are good/passionate about history, and the module's from first year were wide and varied, if second year is similar it will be fantastic... Deffo get on board if ya can.

I may be wrong on this but.....

As far as i can remember Dr Thomas O'Connor is the co-ordinator for MH113 http://history.nuim.ie/staff/oconnor.shtml if he cant help ya i'd give Prof Comerford a bell, http://history.nuim.ie/staff/comerford.shtml he's a no nonsense kinda guy and wont lead astray,

    Best of luck,

    Teabag

    Read the handbook (Page 6)?
Perhaps next year will probably be broadly similar to last year.
