Mactivate the only place to repair Macs?

I have an older MacBook Pro. When I turn it on, it makes a high pitched noise at the front mid-left of the machine, under the keyboard, near the screen. Either the thing's full of gunk, or it's the inverter that's in trouble. Technically, things are still working fine, but I'm afraid of something happening.

As I'm going away for a year, I need to make sure my computer doesn't die on me because there'll be zero chance of getting any kind of replacement while away.

And right now, I'm living in Limerick.

Is Mactivate really the only/best place to send Macs for repair? What is their turnaround on repairs?

From to the Apple repair site (http://www.apple.com/ie/buy/locator/) these guys are authorised to do repairs

    http://www.compub.com/

They are based in Limerick too from what I can see.

I used Dectek (http://www.dectek.ie/) up in Dublin recently, they took 2 weeks to turn around but did a good job.

My Macbook Pro died on me three weeks ago and they had it back in just over a week, Id definitely recommend them.

I used Mactivate before, did a good job, no complaints at all.

Compub are the only authorised repair centre in limerick. I'd recommend my company in Galway but I'm not allowed to self promote...
