GI Joe looks absolutely rotten and i'd rather leave my memories of The Taking of Pelham 123 intact to be honest.

Get yourself a couple of beers instead...

Press screenings of GI Joe are saying its the surprise hit of the summer and better than Terminator 4 and TF2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

Its also gotten good reviews off aintitcool, chud and joblo.com, mostly saying its big silly fun which in fairness is all it needs to be, T4 was painfully average, TF2 was overblown nonsense so Star Trek is the only summer blockbuster worth seeing so far this year

I think Pelham is just unappealing from every pov - cast, the fact that it's a remake etc.

Forget John Revolting and Denzel Wafflington and their usual phoned-in acting performances. Give GI joe a chance and then rent out the original version of pelham - at least then you're guarenteed one good movie.

I'd chose neither, they both look dire for separate reasons. If I had to, I suppose I would go see "The Taking Of..." simply so I could compare & contrast with the original. And then moan about how Hollywood has finally run out of ideas and creativity.

Saw GI Joe today and it's decent. It's a step up from your usual blow 'em up such as Transformers, I'd say that's down to the better calibre of acting (though the red haired girl is awful). It also does a very good job setting up for a sequel.

One complaint I have though is why did it have to be so loud?

I'm also sure I saw cameo from Megan Fox just as the
war head strikes the Eiffel Tower.

Worse than T4 and Transformers 2 put together. No plot, scenes ripped from other movies, crap CG.

    Like I said, amazing.

GI Joe is great. Totally daft, totally over the top and totally enjoyable. After the let downs of Tranformers RoTF and Terminator 4, I had very low expectations for GI Joe, but it's a really enjoyable balls out action film.

    Sounds fun.

People over this side of the world might better remember GI Joe by the name it was marketed as during its 1980s heyday, "Action Force", which the cartoon series aired as on both BBC and RTÉ. (It did air under its original title on Super Channel though, as RTÉ's reviewer remembers...)

As long as it doesn't have the piece-of-cheese title sequence that the 1980s animated movie had...

Absolute crap of the lowest order.

What has been seen cannot be unseen :(

I enjoyed G.I Joe. It was good fun. sure, its not going to win awards for acting or writing, but the action scenes were good, and well paced - it certainly wasn't a boring movie.

There are plot points that i still can't understand, and some truly horrific product placement (norton anti-virus...) but overall it was a fun movie.

whent to see gi joe there last night good film will look cool now on the blu-ray

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

GI Joe was nonsense, over the top, silly, jingostic nonsense, and it was all the better for it, T4 took itself way too seriously and TF2 ruined itself by being an hour too long and making no sense for the most part, GI Joes KNOWS is daft and its a lot more fun because of it, its essentially like watching a live action version of the things we used to do with our toys as kids

Exactly. Exactly as it should be.

Sure, it could have done with less hammy acting, and the back story bits for Snake Eye and Storm Shadow (worst name in the movie) could have been done better.

But for the most part it showed it knew it was supposed to be - it didn't try to be something it is not nor needs to be.

Fun stuff and a decent watch. Nothing stunning but i didn't feel bored during it. It was entertaining.

GI joe dicks all over the two transformers films, except for the cgi in it being so bad and lack of megan fox.

Aside from that its still a pretty bad film, just its fun and they actually pet some tension in some of the sequences (the paris scene was done pretty well)

there were plenty of ??? moments in it, strangely one that sticks with me even though it was tiny was in one scene as the villians walk down a corridor there is a goon standing in the corner blowtorching the wall. It looked so out of place I laughed.

I think to sum up GI joe, its like one of the star wars prequels with the awful script removed and replaced with excuses to go from set piece to set piece, the humour is character based rather then stupid cgi characters and noises (though it did have token black dude) and none of the expectation of those films. So yeah its a four or five out of ten depending on your mood.

Will prob go see Phelam tomorrow.

there were plenty of WTF moments alright.
why did Zartan go to the pit? all i can remember him doing was killing the blonde one, which anyone could have done, then he buggered off and stole some camals. really, what was the point in him being there?

went to see taking of the phelem the other night, wasnt overly impressed. the story line was a little too predictable for my liking, it dragged on for me.(4.5/10)

gi joe- seen it today, its one of those sit back and turn your brain off for the next two hours and enjoy a bit of all out action for two hours or so. knew that going in there and i have to say i enjoyed it. got a bit nuts towards the end but its to be expected. there wont be any oscars won, (unless the two lil ninjas get nominated!)(7/10)
