Where in Tipp is the 'V'? I remember it from the old annual cycle around Ireland that's now the FBD Milk Ras and the scenery looked amazing.

The Vee is a road and hiking trail between Tipperary and Waterford through the Knockmealdown mountains. The Tipperary 'entrance' is close to Clogheen.

You can find a map here.

The lake in that story called Bay Lough can be found as you go over the vee.

Will be in Cahir next weekend. and now am definitely doing the Vee! What about Swiss Cottage and the Rock of Cashel while we're there? Or any other suggestions?

Cahir- you're close to the Mitchelstown caves (despite the name!) Nice coffee shop directly across from the castle. If you go over the Vee, you'll end up in Lismore, the castle gardens and cathedral are both worth a look. Mount Mellary monastery may or may not appeal to you.
On the backroad to Ballyduff from Lismore (to your right before the bridge in Lismore as you come down the Vee) to the Towers,
You can go back over the Nire Valley too, for more wonderful views.

Check out Antony Gormley's (as in Angel Of The North) sculptures in Lismore castle gardens.
