    Hi folks,
I'm looking to find somewhere to get either Pine Tar or black varnish. No joy in any hardware store I can find - the closest is black wood stain, and it's only being sold in 5 litre tins.

I'm preferably looking for a small tin of it, as I'm using it for making walking sticks.

Pine tar would be my first choice, but black varnish if needs be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Regards,
    Druss.

    Druss,

I would try a large boat yard or a marine supply store that caters to wooden boats or a farrier supply or tack and harness shop and ask for Venice turpentine or pine tar.
    Good luck.

Rustins do a wood dye in ebony.
A small tin retails at about €5. after applying the dye you can apply a varnish or laquer to finish.
Most good Builders providers stock the Rustins range.
