How old is the ps3? What size was the original hd? Have you tried putting the old hd back in? Have you tried playing a blu ray movie on it? Sorry for all the questions!

Edit - have you still got the receipt if its new?

Hmmmm im at work just now but i'll have a think. Maybe try puting the old hd back in and see if it will work, it might be a software issue rather than the blu ray of death. I hope!

Thanks, so do I. I had issues with SCEE as my ps was 2 months out of warrenty and they wanted 160yoyos to repair as they told me my hard drive was naff so I bought a new 340GB drive and fitted it for £60. Now im none the wiser as games wont load and if they do it comes back with a error 80010514 or disc cannot be started

Theres your problem mate; SCEE diagnosed it wrong, very much doubt it was the HD in the first place. You've probably got a dodgy disc drive/laser.

you've got a laser alignment problem.
get onto SCEE - they should do this free of charge.

The proof is the playing of DVDs versus a PS3 game which is Blu Ray.
I'd tell 'em u can't play BluRay movies but DVDs are fine.

How would I rectify this, I have noticed that sometimes discs come out of PS with like a smudge on it

I wish I got a XBox  SCEE are a right shower, they have most certainly joined the "RIP OFF IRELAND" group and like to spin a good yarn to suit their needs.

My PS will run blue ray dvd but not games, weird.

Maybe give console repairs a call and see what they say to it?

Don't turn to the dark side!
