    hey

i've just moved house, which happens to have a satellite dish stuck on the side.

how would i go about setting up a free to air box? any suggestions on a good make/brand?

it is just a case of running a cable from the satellite dish to the box?

is there anything obvious i haven't thought about?.....

    cheers!

    Look for a 'Freesat' box

they are the easiest to use.
They have a 7 Day program guide and it will add remove channels itself

Freesat boxs can be gotten, and if you have an LCD/Plasma TV you can get your 3 free (well, 2 and a bit) HD channels.

Just take the co-ax from the sat and run it through your box., and let it tune.
Is it pointing in the same direction as all the other dishes in the locality?
If so, you're on your way!

    Can I ask,

So if my place has a satellite dish on the roof then all I need is a satellite receiver box to get all the Irish FTA?

At the moment I only get RTE1&2, Channel 3 and TG4 - I dont get BBC1/2. I only have a TV, no satellite receiver box at the moment.

    What about getting UK FTA?

    Thanks!

there are no Irish Satellite FTA!
    Only UK FTA! :)

So you get RTE1&2, TV 3 and TG4 via aerial

Dish adds UK channels. About 40 decent TV and 10 decent radio out of maybe 300+ free channels. Inc all the BBC, ITV and C4, Five.

Any particular kind of dish or just any satellite receiver that I can get from aldi/lidl/argos etc?

    minimum 50cm east, 60cm west. 70cm to 90cm better.

Any satellite receiver. But "freesat" or Sat4free branded are best as you don't need to tune and get a better program guide.

    Lidl/Aldi rarely have good dishes.

thanks, aldi in belfast has some freesat... any places more local ppl can suggest for freesat sat4free?

Aldi usually has FTA, not Freesat

    Hello everyone,

It seems I am in the same situation as gar_29: I moved in a penthouse where on the terrace we have a satelite dish already pointing to the right direction. The receiver box in the house seems not working (it is a Big Sat International DSR 6500 Prima).

I think I need to buy a new box. Saw previous recommendations (freesat or sat4free). Where do I find them? Sorry to bother you with silly questions but this is my first experience. Thank you very much in advance.

I saw a advert for freesat/sat4free whereby it showed the sat dish clampled beside the TV on the table?! I though the dish had to outside on the side of the house ?
