Blonde to Brown!

Okay the time has come for a change, I've been getting my hair dyed blonde (usually highlights, recently permanent colour) since I was about 14, and I'm sick of being a horrible yellow colour!

No matter how many lots of highlights I get, its never blonde enough, which is weird because I'm naturally dark blonde! The full colour isn't much better, it's way too yellow for my liking and not to mention the roots! I think it must be the undertones that are stopping me being the shade of blonde that I want! So now I want to try brown...!

Has anyone on here went brown after being blonde for a very long time?! My biggest fear is ending up that horrible yellowy-bronze in between colour, I know it will have to be dyed a few times and will probably need to be filled as well, my question is, was it worth the hassle?

I dyed my hair blonde for 5/6 years ago, highlights full head, last September I decided to go back to my natural colour. I had no problems at all, it took a few goes but I now have a colour I like, I was natuarlly dark brown, but the only problem I have now is grey hairs I had them before but now I see with the regrowth there is alot more and I have to dye my hair every 2 months but I do it myself with a home colour that has actually added to my hair colour.

OP, I feel your pain, here in Canada they will do you really blonde but Irish hairdressers never got me blonde enough! Then I startyed dyeing it myself and in natural light it looked OK but in artificial light it was yellowish, no matter how much I toned it!

So I went back to my roots (darkest brown) this week and have had nothig but compliments. I had to use a copper coloured filler first and then a medium brown dye (darkness was level 5). One BIG warning to give you is to make sure to only buy a medium brown dye and make sure to watch it like a hawk as it develops! When you dye your hair blonde for a long time it becomes very porous and will soak up a brown dye like a sponge. My medium brown was meant to be left on for 40 minutes but it was dark brown after 15!

PS As you're going darker, you could use a semi-permanent instead of a permenent, they give better shine and are less damaging. You'll probably be topping it up every couple of months either way because permanent dyes fade as well.

i was pure blonde for the past 3 years always got tints done so was all over blonde, roots were annoying me plus the yellow look was horrible so i decided enough was enough and went brown 2wks ago, my cousin is a hairdresser so she done it and she said usually the first time ya dye it it looks like a greeny shine off it so she jus added a bit of fire red to the brown so it had a red shine off it and then the next day she jus put a dark brown tint in to get rid of the red and its turned out perfect i love it now.

I've been getting all over tints now for the last 3 or so years and decided one day it was time to tone down and go back to my orginal colour of light brown. My hairdresser (best friend) suggested toning it down first by throwing in a few low lights instaed of jumping straight into going back brown. I lasted 2 days with the low lights and I was back on her door step begging her to bleach me back up - I just couldn't cope with the little bit of brown she had put in!!!

Really wish I was as brave as you!!:)

I've had lowlights as well, they just looked ridiculous because the rest of my hair was bright blonde, so I just had these horrible little streaks of dark brown! And they faded so fast and just turned an orange colour! Yuck! So now I've decided its all or nothing lol!
