    Hi all,

I am getting my holidays from work on 19th of September and was thinking of going island hopping in Croatia for a few weeks. I was wondering (1) if the weather is still good there this late in the year and (2) will the islands still be busy/in season at this time of year or will the tourist season be over?

Also, for getting out to the islands would we be better off basing ourselves in Split or Dubrovnik?

    Thanks for the help.

Not an expert on Croatia but just back from my second trip to Dubrovnik and the guy we were renting the apt from recommended coming later in the year next time as it's not as hot and much less crowded.

With regard the island hoping, I would think flying into one and out of the other would be your best bet.

Flying into the islands!!! Are you mad?!
We went to the islands by ferries which are very cheap and very punctual. They leave very early in morning as well so you get to spend a full day on your new destination. Took the Jadrolinija ferry twice and got to Brac by Catmaran from Hvar. Go down to port the day before to check ferry times and to buy your tickets or to check other destinations. The excellent Jadrolinija ferries operated everyday in peak summer times. not sure about Septmber though. check out their sailing schedules or timetables on http://www.jadrolinija.hr/.
Just back from island hopping and touring croatia... Imagine there will be far less tourists on the islands and the mainland of croatia at this time of year. Weather will be milder as well and more bearable.
Would definitely base myself in Dubrovnik if i was you. I much preferred it to Split which in my opinion was a bit of a kip and had far less atmosphere. I found the people are much more friendly in Dubrovnik as well.
Islands i visited were Korcula, Hvar and Brac. Needless to say Hvar was the highlight of the islands and the possibly the whole trip. Really liked korcula as well, there was a great atmosphere when we were there as there was a festival going on. I imagine it would be much quitier though in September but it is a really lovely spot, a mini Dubrovnik and worth two nights at least. Stayed in royal apartments there which are bang on centre and very nice.
Went to Bol on the island of Brac and was my least favourite of the three. Wasn't a whole lot going on there, no real atmosphere around the place and had to get a one of those mini trams or buses to the main beach zlatini rat. However that beach is worth visiting alright.

Eh who mentioned flying into the islands, he asked about Split and Dubrovnik and I said fly into one and out of the other, maybe you should read posts more carefully in future..............

Well if you were talking about the cities you should have said with regard to flying in Dubrovnik or Split. With regard to island hopping gives the indication that you were talking about flying into them which leads to misinterpretation. Maybe be clearer next time Superstar!!

Flying into one and out of another is still flying isn't it? I agree with real mc coy, flying at all would take from the experience.. Island hopping is all about the ferries.
