    Hi all!

Right, so the time has come for a new TV, old ones gone belly up so looking to get something fairly soonish.

    Requirements:

    Size: 42" or larger

    HD: Would like Full HD

Would like at least one HDMI port

    Would like 100Hz min

Brand: Not too pushed about brands - heard Panasonic were good. Last/current TV was a Samsung - broke after 2 years, Samsung were useless so not too keen on Samsung atm.. anything really though!

LCD VS Plasma... Hmmmm that's a toughie!

Already have a 50" Plasma which I'm not mad on.. clarity and picture quality isn't is good as what I'd have liked so kinda wondering about LCD now.. although for a 42" would Plasma be better than LCD?

Budget is around 1k (flexible though!)

I really haven't a clue what to get and ideally would like to pick up something this weekend - I live in Galway so will probably be heading to Currys/Sony/Expert/D.I.D

I'm a bit clueless when it comes to TV's to be honest..

What sort of contrast ratio should I be aiming for? What kinda hertz?

TV will mainly be used for SKY along with DVD's - possibly be uprading to Bluray later on too so would like something make good use of that.

Atm I'm being swayed by Panasonic as they're doing a 5yr Warranty, which after my horrid experience with Samsung is looking like some added reassurance, however I haven't a clue what models are good in Panasonic?

Any help at all guys will be greatly appreciated, come on, help me spend my monies they're burning a hole in my pocket!! ;)

Right, So I think I've finally narrowed it down to the Panasonic P46G10L now, before I jump headfirst into this and buy it tomorrow anyone got any feedback on this choice be it good bad or indifferent?

Or anyone got any recommendations of other brands/models to check out before I go for the G10 Panny?

    Thanks everyone!

    Any comments at all appreciated!

Already a thread on the G10. I have one myself, purchased after trolling through reviews and browsing shops. I actually waited for this model to be released. It's excellent to be fair, very glad I wasn't swayed by the popular choice of LCD. This set is much more natural looking and handles motion without problems, unlike LCD. Also contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1 makes for great black levels. Go for it. Best TV for the money IMO. Only TV that I saw that was significantly better was a Pioneer Kuro. The lack of another grand prevented me purchasing that though!

Hi Guys, considering purchasing the 42" G10 this week, and just wanted to know which model did you go with. I was planning on getting the txp42g10b for the Freesat HD, but wondering will it receive the Irish Digital channels when they eventually go live. Heres the speal for the British model

    Tuner Integrated yes
DVB Digital Tuner **** yes [DVB-T/freesat]
Tuning System PLL synthesizer 100-position auto-search tuner
    CATV Compatibility UK
    Broadcast Stereo Reception NICAM (FM)
    Teletext Reception 1500P Level 2.5, FASTEXT/LIST
    Receiving System **** PAL-I, DVB-T, freesat
    Receiving System(AV Input) PAL-525/60, SECAM, NTSC, M-NTSC

    No mention of the MPEG4.

I did see another thread hear saying that a Freesat TV can receive the Irish Digital channels but it won't automatically find them:confused:

    Opinions appreciated.

Probably comedown a good bit now in the current climate.

    Its a superb TV.

I picked up the Panny TX-P42V10B from Seamus Watters last week. It is a step-up from the highly rated G series (a worthy successor according to the reviews that matter, and the gurus over at AVforums). Simply a stunning set.
