Pete Doherty has revealed that he and Carl Barat discussed plans to make an album and tour together after The Libertines reunited for a one-off gig in London in May.

The Babyshambles frontman has repeatedly outlined his desire to reform the band properly, but has not spoken about the discussions he and Barat have had until now.

However, he has now told The Times that the pair talked about returning to the studio in 2010 following their show at the Rhythm Factory, a tribute for late promoter Johnny Sedassy, who used to organise the band's shows.

"We had a good couple of hours [after the show]," he said. "We were up all night together. It was amazing really. I think we're gonna make a record and tour. Get The Libertines to take it to the next step, next stage."

Doherty also said that he had another solo album in mind – a follow-up to his 'Grace/Wastelands' record, which was released in March.

"I just see 'Grace/Wastelands 2'," he said. "I think I've got a 'Harvest' [classic Neil Young album] in there. I keep getting flashes of it, even if it's just for a couple of minutes."

Would be amazing if true. I only saw the Libs at Oxegen without Pete. Was great, but it didn’t feel right. I really hope this is true. I like Babyshambles, but you’d really miss Carl’s guitar playing over Pete’s songs.

I'm a massive fan of everything Pete Doherty has done, and I would love to see the Libertines do another album, but if they come and do arena gigs and the like it will be absolutely ****e. There will be so much hype around them too that it just won't be like the old days..

It's gonna be a bit crap to be honest.

god no please don't let this happen.

last thing we need is an already over rated band that makes the most blandest music become even more over rated.

anyone know if the NME is cheaper than bog roll?

What have NME got to do with anything?

The Libertines are the best band to come out of the UK since Radiohead.

well you obviously haven't heard of

    biffy clyro
    idlewild
    sucioperro
    oceansize
    yourcodenameis:milo
    aereogramme

Just to name a few bands "since radiohead" that are light years ahead of the libertines. Also comparing the libertines to radiohead is quite loltastic.

The NME have everything to do with it as they push terrible band to the point that everyone hangs on every word they say. The fact that you think the libertines are the best thing to come out of brittain since radiohead just furthers the point.

They've been dragging this out for a year and a half and I'm just getting kind of tired of it tbh. Either actually reform and stop torturing the fankids with all this speculation, or eff off back to your side projects. Even if they do get back together, it won't be the same.

Also; the NME is a rag. Wouldn't line my cats litter box with it.

Indie's moved on a bit since the days of the Libertines.

They were always a good band whom we were told were an amazing band. I don't entirely see the point of them reforming tbh.

The libertines are the best band to come out of england in the last 10 years imo, easily. They woke up a completely stagnant london music scene and made lyrically astute songs about the times they were living in. They paved the way for so many bands since then, who to me, sound like watered down imitations.

Oh and i've heard of all the bands on your little list there, not a patch on the libs. Idlewild had it at the start but there recent album is muck. Same for Biffy. The others apart for a catchy song, nothing new at all going on.

I'd say they will reform, they where offered ~£1million to headline reading/leeds but Carl didn't want to do it or something.

I'm guessing they will reform to do the festival circuit, do a UK tour and then fade away again.

Carl's probably too busy hanging around with Glasvegas. Now there's an overrated band.

You could have a point there.

(on topic from here on guys - no glas vegas rants in here - thanks)

I think it'll happen when Carl needs the cash/caves to the hype.

Not sure how it will go, prob like everything with the lib's it'll be a shambles dotted with moments of beauty.
