Due to circumstances I find myself with no short to medium term goals.

I've had about a month completely off and I need something to aim for to help motivate me get back into training.

Given that I don't really like events under 10km is there anything that I could target in November/Decemeber?

Had considered it but it means about 4-5 weeks of poor run training afterwards and my level of fitness at this stage means I would not be ready to do the distance justice and the attraction of just getting around 42km sorta goes when your long runs have been 38km for alot of the year :)

@Gringo: whats the waterford half like? any link to a website for course and results?

www.waterfordac.com I think its a new race so no previous results but there is a course map. The national half marathon championships were held in waterford last september so it may be the same course. Sungod flagged this one to me so he or Sosa could maybe shed further light on it.

If you want to kick off with a 10km to gauge your current level, the Donadea 10k is a nice route on the 10th October, just outside of Dublin. Then you could pick one of the above suggested 10ks (Aware in December?) to greatly improve on your time.

10k Aware run in the Phoenix Park around 8th December. If the weather this year is anything like last year it will be a running/skating duathalon!

Slowly. Very slowly. Frustrating. Struggling to jog/woddle for 20 minutes. Oh well. Character building.

Hmm, the OP asked about races in Nov/Dec and there is one linked at the top of my sig--- thought it was pretty obvious :-)

Must be a setting or something but I don't see a signature with your posts or any other postes for that matter. Apologies.

Good that you are back doing a bit. How's the shoulder? Will it be long before you are back in the water or on the bike?

I may be wrong but I think its only subcribers who see the signatures... I can't see them either

    hi tunney

Came across this race which could be a good target to set a pb over 10km - over a new motorway - in november - easy access from dublin

    See http://www.runireland.com/events/2009-11-07/10k-crookstown-motorway-run

    :)

Gringo is spot on,the irish half was down here last year and it is the same course.
I think its a very fair course ( but then again i run along that route most weekends and know it like the back of my hand ).
First 3m are flat, the next 4 are up and down ( nothing severe ),next mile is the toughest, then you are slightly downhill for 2,and the last 3 are flat.

I make it sound easy but its not that easy, that stretch of road sometimes serves up some severe wind which would really make it interesting :D

No experience ..... I'm just showing that madness still exists. I'm doing a recce of the loop (running one) in September so I'l have a better idea of how these thing work.
