Im going away travelling and im looking for a net book it use mainly for checking emails, bebo, itunes, skype and uploading pictures off a digital camera. The main requirement is a good battery life. Reading posts on the forum the samsung nc10 seems to be popular. Is theyre any cheaper alternatives?
    Thanks

The nc10 has very decent battery life alright. Sounds like it would be just the ticket for you. The aspire one D250 is probably worth looking at too.

Netbooks like the Asus Eee 1000HE and 1005HA have very, very long battery life. I think some people have reported getting up to 12 hours on the 1005HA.

Where about in ireland can i buy one of them. Any good websites?..there seems to be a few horror stories about buying from certain ones.
How would they compare in price to an nc10?

How are you finding it. It seems like one of the best buys out there for netbooks.

Well wear on the purchase eire.
How do you find the size/weight of the 1005?
Where did you get it? Any warranty/insurance?

Im in the market myself for a netbook and its just so damn hard to choose with all the different models!
Its for back to college, and tbh id prefer to keep the price as low as possible and the size/weight.

I have most if not all of my textbooks in pdf or djvu format so id like to have something to read those off. I was thinking maybe an iphone or blackberry...
    Very hard to chose...

    laptopsdirect.ie have a samsung n120 for €380 i think. That looks great...

Check one out somewhere - I had a look at the N-110 but the glossy screen was awful, I went for the NC-10 which has a matt screen.

Get Acer Aspire One with standard battery. Then buy high capacity battery on ebay for 50. You will have 2 batteries then. The big one should last up to 10 hours. The other one should be your back up. You can get it the whole lot for 300.

in the process of buying one of these. Komplett have them at €329. No delivery charge if you collect from their warehouse in Blanchardstown.

I second the aspire one. Picked up a d150 for €300 from pixmania with a 6 cell battery for the girlfriend. Battery easily hitting 7hours +, probably more if you tweak the settings.
Also comes with suprisingly little blaotware for an ACER (although i did clean it up and stuck on the usual VLC, AVG, Open office etc)...runs like a dream.

Tempted to buy her an ipod instead and keep it!

Just remember that there are two flavours of the Asus 1005HA, the one with an Atom n270 processor and no bluetooth, and the n280 which has the very long battery life.

The shops sell the n270. Don't get this one. Get the n280 based one on elara.ie.

Just ordered the 1005HA N280 from komplett @ 329. price in elara is over 380. Free pick up at the warehouse. btw, I am not connected with Komplett in any way.

Ok, I got this from Komplett last friday and have been playing with it. Battery time is ~10 hours . I tested it running movies through VLC for about 8 hours and it still had about an hours battery time left.

A really lovely machine, and easy enough to manage, even for an old guy with bad eyesight and stubby fingers like me.

    Very impressed.

    Hi,

Is the asus 1005ha N280 better than the Samsung NC10 or is there much of a difference?

    Thanks.

The 1005ha won't be that much different from the nc10. Tbh, i'd probably go for the Asus, although i haven't seen them in the flesh, they're supposed to be quite good. They're slim, have a nice keyboard and the touchpad isn't too small. The only trouble with the nc10 is the small touchpad.
