Just wondering if anyone is doing the Skerries Aquathon on August 22nd? What's Skerries like for swimming - is it normally calm enough?

    Thanks...

    wont make it this year.
Skerries is typically a great place to swim. Its quite protected and this sort of event (espectially the super sprint (1500m swim, 8k run)) will be perfect final preparation for anyone taking on their first olympic distance towards the end of the 'summer'. IMHO

Thanks for that... I think I'll sign up for it - heard good things from others too. Here's hoping for the weather to be good!

ok new to all this but very interestedin starting. just a few queries. do you need all the fancy gear to compete in this? i dont have anything like that, have an old shortie wet suit and a pair of running shoes, would thaat do?

You don't need any fancy gear - what you have mentioned will do fine. I think the wet suit is mandatory (it usually is for triathlon anyway) but after that all you need is a pair of runners to get you round the run and whatever shorts & t shirt you can lay a hand on. I wouldn't get too worried about fancy gear - you get more of that at triathlons with guys spending loads on fancy bikes...

OP - Feel free to post this in Dublin County North forum if you want opinions from the locals.
