    hi guys

the power steering went on the car today

is it the fuse or have i worst problems.

when i press the city button nothing happens, just the red steering wheel light comes on when i start the engine.

im really hoping its just a fuse, im smashed and have no money to replace it.

my question is , what fuse do i replace for the power steering on the 00 model?

    cheers guys

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, and I ain't no mechanic so could be way off the mark. But that happened my 02 punto last year and had to replace the whole shibang - 600 euros!!!
Sorry, but figured I'd be upfront so you don't get a shock

The power steering in a Punto is electric, so there's no fluids.

I used to have a 00 Punto and the same thing happened occassionaly, turning over the ignition again used to sort it out. I wasnt pushed on getting it fixed because i was selling the car at the time it started to happen

Well I think that is a bit uncalled for.
And no I didn't need to TOP UP THE FLUID. Of course all of the obvious was checked before spending huge money.
I am just telling the storey how it is

Get a second hand motor, not a big job to fit

Yes you need to replace the complete steering column and ecu, don't bother with a second hand one cause they all give trouble, you can buy the part direct from fiat or you can get an aftermarket one from driveshaft service just off the longmile rd.

Why do you need to replace the ecu??

Having problems with the steering on a 02 punto myself. The power steering has'nt gone but even when the car is say waiting at traffic lights i can feel a vibration and roughness in the steering wheel. Gave it into the local dealer a few weeks back and they said everything was ok but it's definately worse now than it was back then. Would there be any danger that the steering would go all together? Don't want to take any chances if its dangerous.
