Can anyone recommend a good decent web host that I can trust and are reasonable in price for my business website.

At the moment I am ready to go with www.justhost.com but am waiting on funding. Has anyone had any dealings with them? If so your feedback would be very much appreciated.

Also I was thinking of going with www.letshost.ie but those guys seem a bit disorganised and laid back.

    Any info is appreciated

    Thanks
    Zodiacc;)

    www.server.lu
    www.choopa.com

unmetered bandwidth from both (100mbit/s shared ports on server.lu, specified tier 1 bandwidth with choopa).

for shared hosting, I'd recommend hostgator.com

Blacknight are the best, they are a pleasure to deal with and you really get good value for money while helping out the Irish economy at the same time

I've been with Letshost for many years and any issues I've had were resolved by them. Generally I've found them a competent bunch!

Is it just a basic website? Are you expecting much traffic? Any other needs?

The big three in Ireland are Digiweb, Hosting / Register 365, and Blacknight.

Depending on your target market it may be an advantage to have the site hosted in Ireland.

I do alot of web development and my general advice to people regarding hosting is that there is plenty of cheaper companies out there, but if you have problems with your site and you are with one of these companies support can be a nightmare. Always think about this when purchasing hosting.

You also got to remember that if you want to appear on Google.ie listings it is much better to use and Irish hosting company as they will have an Irish IP address. Using a US or UK company will give your site a non irish IP address and it can make it alot more difficult to appear in Google.ie listings.

All the Irish hosting companies are very good and offer similar prices and packages. I use Blacknight because I find their support excellent especially using their instant chat function.

Remember...cheap hosting is great until something goes wrong!

TheWaterboy is right, id host Irish. I host all of my sites with Blacknight, always been very helpfull.

I have a reseller account with hostgator.com in the States and have found them to be very good. The only reason I haven't gone with an Irish-based provider yet is price. However, I've been keeping an eye on Blacknights offerings and over the years and their prices now compete effectively with cheaper US-based hosting companies. So I'm more inclined to make the switch now and keep my business in Ireland.

I'm accustomed to CPanel now but I don't think Blacknight use it. Has anyone made the move from a CPanel supplier to Blacknight and how did you find the transition? Did you lose any features? Cpanel to Cpanel migration is very straightforward as I've done it before - just backup the domain on the losing supplier and restore on the new one. I have reservations about moving to a non-Cpanel supplier so if anyone has had the experience I'd appreciate your views.

Something that Blacknight offers that I haven't seen from their competitors is one-click SugarCRM setup. Has anyone used this and how do you rate it?

    Guys,
My biggest worry is customer support once the website is up and running. The website is mainly for customers to see what it is my company does but what TheWaterBoy and Spartacus said has made me think more about staying with an Irish Hosting company. I would prefer to give it to someone in Ireland but again with price and some of the dealings I have had with 1 or 2 Irish Hosting companies already I was worried about their customer support, as some basic questions I have asked before I set up turned into a big ordeal. I just googled in Web Hosting and contacted some of them.

Thanks for the tip on some other hosting companies I can try if anyone can think of more please stick it up.

    Thanks
    Zodiacc;)

PS.. Anyone know much about Adobe Flash 8? I want to get the resolution on the website to look right on any PC screen resolution but there is a white border around it at the moment and it doesnt fit the screen properly when I publish it. The size of the web page is set to 800 x 600 and the resolution of my PC is set to 1024 x 768. Something to do with percentages I think but I lost.Any help would be appreciated.

I think that discussion of web hosting is barred on boards.ie, for a list of web hosting companies see the following sticky http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055075688

if your concern is customer support etc you really need to go with someone with a proven track record, blacknight are miles ahead of anyone in this regard.

Fantastic technical support, quick to respond and very knowledgeable.

I would recommend blacknight as well. Great service and great support.

www.letshost.ie but those guys seem a bit disorganised and laid back.

That is true. One of my friends was with them before they moved on.

Blacknight are good but the problem with them is the control panel they give their customers. They use Plesk, this downloads so much information that the web host will not find and not have control of. There's millions of forums against Plesk coz of what it does. Don't get me wrong Plesk is a good powerful control panel but with what goes on in the background (on the server) has got very poor reviews.

I would recommend a web host with cPanel (Control Panel). The web host i'm with is www.hostingandwebsolutions.com, they are new to the market and are the cheapest. Not only that, i have not had one problem with them since i joined them.

I had a look at your site, it could certainly do with a little spruce up!

What you like to have done to it?

    Thanks Guys!
I was all set to go with Blacknight but BrianLiverpool has mentioned a new crowd so I will investigate them aswell. I was told before that the control panel with Blacknight is a problem but has anyone else had a problem with this control panel (Plesk). I dont want to rush into picking a host but Blacknight keep coming up trumps;)

    Thanks

Blacknight's customer service is excellent, i have had replies within minutes.
However i prefer cPanel to plesk and if i had a choice i would go for a host with CPanel. I am not an experienced user in web development so i prefere cpanel(bit more user friendly imo).

I use www.novara.ie I have found them very good and in 3 years or so have never had email or site down. Nice people too and as far as I know the are well priced. Also Irish owned....

Digiweb took them over a while back...

Going by their website (host.ie) they're very expensive. Digiweb's €40 p/a package is substantially better than Novara's €300 p/a package.

Looks like just another reseller rather than a pureplay hoster. DNS shows fastsecurehost.com as nameservers but it has its own nameservers. The 01/August/2009 stats showed 2 domains on its own nameservers.

The main Irish hosters are Blacknight, Register365.ie, Digiweb.ie and Letshost.ie. It would be far better to use an Irish hoster rather than some of the low-end hosters suggested earlier in the thread.

    Regards...jmcc

Really.....how can you tell from that. I'm happy with them. If they are then it would not bother me as long as they keep providing the good service they gave me.

If you are serious about the site, use Blacknight.
    no point in messing around.
When your site goes down that's when you know who you sohuld be with.

We were messed around by Hosting 365 for months before we changed to Blacknigth and haven't had a problem since.

Blacknight seems very well thought of, just a pity they do not use cPanel I find it easy to use.

Really.....how can you tell from that.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. :) [1] Actually I have a large database of domain names and hosters so I can see how many domains approximately 1.2M hosters have over the major TLDs. The same database shows DNS level stats and what IPs have multiple DNSes on them.

Make sure your web host has one click installation of both Joomla and Wordpress for your blog.

This saves you hundreds on development fees. Also, make sure you have unlimited space and bandwidth.

I have used a number of hosting providers in the past. The best one and the one I use now is Bluehost.

I have used a number of hosting providers in the past. The best one and the one I use now is Bluehost.

They might be the best in your opinion but they are based in america which means your servers are running on american ip addresses which will affect your sites rankings in google for searches in Ireland and having an irish website.

Depending on the type of business and the size, if you have a database with customers etc unlimited space and bandwidth are not a big issue, most standard sites for a business will only be a few mb and wont have anywhere near the limit of bandwidth given. As regards wordpress and joomla, wordpress is easy enough to install without spending hundreds on fees. I would personally go with Blacknight, I have used them and have no issues with them at all. When you are only setting up a normal business website plesk isnt going to be a big deal for you or cause you loads of nightmares, if you are going with a big database driven website then your developer will be organising all that anyways.

Recently moved from GoDaddy to Blacknight. Have to agree with the above posts, customer service is fantastic and the control is pretty straightforward to use.
