Can you answer how many wires do each devices need? I have 1 cat5 ran out but would like to put 2 cameras on the 1 wire so I hoping they use just 4 wires each so I can put 4 wires into each rj45 on both ends.

And if the above is true what are the pin outs for the rj45's? 1,2,3,6 ?

    Could this be the answer?

Suggest you try this on the Tech->Nets and Comms forum. Lots of helpful people on there.

One pair for power and the other three pairs for video. Three cameras from a Cat5 including power.

How long is the cable run and what type of cameras are they?

    Theses are the cameras:
    http://www.cctvdirect.co.uk/products/Vandal-Proof-Dome-Camera.html
    • Power source: DC12V 400mA
I want to put 2 of them on my garage and I have cat5 ran out underground already.

Here is the power supply i plan to use to power the 4 camera's with a 4 way splitter: It is 5Amp
    http://www.cctvdirect.co.uk/products/5-Amp-Inline-Power-Supply-for-Cameras.html

Distance the 2 cameras have to travel over the cat 5 is about 25 metres.

@fred funk }{ - so if i wanted to use 2 pairs for each camera (4wires) then i could use 4 wires (1 pair for power and 1 pair for video) -any one know the way the cat 5 needs to be crimpted for these? Is is 1,2,3,5 straight through?

You wont need powered Baluns for a short distance like that. Get some of the cheaper non powered one's.

The Cat5 has four twisted pairs. If you are sending the power through this cable it will use one pair thus leaving three pairs for three cameras.
The Baluns have two terminals at the back marked + & - mark sure you get the polarity correct at both ends. There should be no need to crimp anything. Why did you think this?

I taught looking at the baluns that I would have to plug the cat 5 into them into rj45 sockets? I planned on then putting 4 wires into 2 rj45's on both ends on 1 cable and getting 2 cameras across the one cable that way.

You can get them with the RJ45 plugs but i always use one's like below, very easy to set up and no crimping either.
