since we are posting examples - i guess i should put up something - its very scary to do this though - very scary

a pompousy film theme type experiment - its a rough demo of a riff I got mucking about on bass.,
i played a drum track and some guitars on top
i know there is hum and noise , some timing issues and the bass line is sooo cheeesy

it also sounds dull, as i hadnt fixed the room right and was using mackie 624 monitors

note this is done in a tiny bedroom so be kind

    drums are live
    guitara via a pod
    bass was di

Only just spotted that you'd posted this... I'll leave the pros to comment on the technical side of things since there's nothing of value I can add other than to say I think you've done a great job – especially in a 10 x 10 bedroom from a standing start a couple of years ago.

Music-wise though, I will comment... I like it. Musically, the track has a bit of an 80's vibe going on which I really like. Only thing I'd say is that the bass sounds a bit light to me - it needs to rumble & growl for a track like this (although that may be just my crappy work headphones).

... you mentioned movie sound tracks?... this would work perfectly against an action sequence/car chase type thing. You might also consider the gaming end of things - I'm not a gamer, but if I was, this'd make me want to drive faster and/or shoot more bad guys.

Having said that, it's potentially the bones of a great song too… so might be worth considering that route too... I suppose it depends on what you want to get out of it at the end of the day.

Anyway, I enjoyed it. Fair play to you for posting it here. It's not easy, but hopefully you’ll get constructive feedback on the technical side too. I’ve found most folks on here are sound with the feedback.

    Good stuff!

    Good .......
what processing is happening on the master bus?

bass could be more stable .... ... transient designer ... the sononox one would help with the string slap on the bass when used in neg. ratio.

I'd get things to sound more like they are in the same room playing together ......... not sure if that makes sense .......... but the drums sound is like they are being played in a big room ........ but guitars sound recorded else where.

I am at work but dropped it into reaper and applied some eq and image enhancement and guitars pop out.

    I like it

thanks ( the room is 8 by 8 by 7 high ;-) but its smaller due to the treatment ! )

ok, the bass is fingerplayed , so I should have either picked it or slapped it really for this kind of track .

the master buss has a ssl master buss compressor on it , nothing else

some guitars have delay , the heavy ones are dry , the drums have a roomy reverb sended on them.

I wanted the guitars to sort of sit out ward in the heavy bits

but all of this is very rough , it was just a scratch track done in an hour after i recorded the bass riff

it needs to be re recorded properly .

I just wanted to put something up instead of yapping about doing it , dont want to be just a critic - i need to be critced ;_)

the music is great, would like to hear how YOU envisage a vocal over it, and your ideas on lyrics,

what comes first a vocal hook or the idea of the subject you sing about...

    thinks,,,

maybe ll put one up for y'all...

    IMO

    The way i work

I work rough on demos up to where I have a whole song Idea including the vocal and lyrics set

Then If its strong i will refine the whole project ...I go to my prefferred guitarist and vocalist and say help me improve this shizt

I would not spend ages to make a perfect demo....

hopefully in about 20 years I will have an albums worth to go and sell .....

and I wonder if I should put a finished one up!!!!!!

you guys would rip it to shreds (shrinks into corner) :-)

and more importantly FOR me Im having fun making music and trying to improve it

in the meantime the experts may hear what Im doing and say hey geezer you got something going on COME HERE ( yeah like thats gonna happen right !!!) we will pay for the rest

Who are these 'top men' of whom you speak ?

well you , for a start , sunbeam :pac:

regarding perfect demos , I am writing as a song writer , playing everything , recording everything , by myself . and doing it all at home

I may mix / or share mix with another set of ears - and have someone master it as well

will be looking to publish them - so to a publisher they will be demos .

to me they will be final versions ,

but to others probably demos - and hopefully they may want to record them .

i prefer complete control over the instruments - and not use session people - unless its inevitable
it really expands your overall musicianship by
learning to play each part yourself as much as i can .
