First Iphone help needed!

Received my first iphone today, its jailbroken to the new 3.0 software! I put in my sim and everything seems grand but i have no signal! i cannot find anywhere to select my network also none of my contacts that are on my sim are on the iphone! Sorry if this sounds stupid but help badly needed! Cheers:)

Is the phone in flight mode....is there an image of an airplane in the top left of the screen?

To import SIM contacts, go to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Import SIM Contacts.

As for network, try Settings->Carrier and set it to Automatic if possible.

What model is it?

Is it a brand new phone or 2nd hand?

You shouldn't have to connect to the network yourself, it should do it automagically.

Its 2nd hand bought it off ebay! No the airoplane mode is turned off!

The first time I jailbroke my phone I got no signal at all.

I had to restore it and re-jailbreak it. Worked fine second time around.

So what am i better off doing restoring it with itunes and re-jailbreaking it? and its the 3g model!

It's an option unless anyone else has other ideas. (Mine was a 3G running 3.0 too).
It could still be a settings thing. What network are you on, and what country did the phone come from?

Im with o2 and i bought it from the uk! is there anywhere in the settings to choose a network and that upload sim contacts didnt work for some reason earlier on!

If you're trying to use it with O2 IRL: are you sure it's been unlocked?

Well the lad i bought it from said it was plus would it not lock up if i turned it on with my sim in it!? it has cydia and ice apps so wouldnt that mean its unlocked??

If its a 3g, update it to 3.0 and re jailbreak and unlock it. Should be ok then.

That just means it's jailbroken, afaik, although it still might be unlocked too.

If nothing you do to the settings gets your signal back I'd still restore it to 3.0 like I had to.

This is true.

You could always open Cydia and see if any of the apps used to unlock it are installed in the manage section? Like ultrasn0w or redsn0w etc?
