I think I'll tag along with your request.

There are so many bikes out there that it's truely difficult to buy something. The other problem is when you walk into a shop everyone has sometething else to say so you never really know who to believe.

Do you want to do any form of cycling on it other than your commute- if so what type. Also how long is your commute etc.

well id like to go for a cycle now and again, i would say road cycling, or maybe something i good stick wheels on if i wanted to go up hills or more countryside cycling. my work commute would be 20mins on a bike i would think

For the other cycling then- how far might you want to work up to and all on tarmac or not?

Do you want to be able to carry stuff to and from work etc. - if so you might want to get a rack and panniers.

Mudguards are generally to be recommended on any bike to be used in this country.

I picked up a Lapierre rcr 100 for just under 500 quid recently.

For someone who's just started cycling again in nearly 15 years it's just perfect. Sturdy enough for commuting through town and fast & light enough for whizzing about in the evenings.

Worth a look, although the tyres it came with were like paper, 3 punctures in the first 3 days. The kevlar tyres I replaced them with effectively added 60 quid to the price of the bike!
