This is a pretty opinionated topic in respects to safety on the mountains.
Some people do others don't do you ?

I will stand up and say yes I do. I like it as far as I'm concerned the only people I have to look out for are in front of me.

whats your feelings on it? Weather you ski, board or telemark....

Do you listen to tunes on the slopes? 10 votes

In theory you only have to look out for those in front of you but in reality there are situations with people alongside you too. Not having music playing means you will be somewhat aware of what's directly behind you too.

I generally go quite fast and usually ski with other people so I have never listened to music while skiing. If I was on the slopes on my own it might be different though.

I always listen to music when boarding, especially fast metal or dance music that I wouldnt normally listen to that often.
The onus is on those uphill to avoid you if they are overtaking you so its just a matter of being aware of what is to either side of you before putting a turn in.
Ive heard that ski resorts in the US are seeing skiers suing each other over accidents, even talk of breath tests coming in so dont be surprised if listening to music is banned at some places within the next 3-5years. I'll still do it though:D
Also many helmets now come with built in speakers so you can now listen to your tunes in total safety !

...and behind you for boarders is actually just to one side of you.

I've never listened to music on the slopes though and can't see myself ever now as it is certainly very useful to be able to hear what is going on around and behind you when you have a line of people following you.

    Decided to add a poll.

Sorry about the option names though, but I thought yes/ no was a bit dull. ;)

Yeh, I listen to tunes on the slopes.

It's easy enough to have them at a low volume and still be able to hear what's going on around you.

I'm still too afraid of breaking my iPod after falling! Also like to be aware of who's around me, above and below on the slope. Maybe you should only have to worry about those below, but I'd rather be safe than have some clod take my head off with a pair of skis (obviously boarders would turn to avoid!! ;)

As long as you are aware of what is around you and keeping a good eye on you periphiral vision, you should be ok.

Love having Music in while skiing alone but if I was with a group I wouldnt Always take it out on the life because it is always intresting to talk to people.

Have a full ski list everything from Abba to Scooter and zz top and all inbetween Now just have to get head phones that fit under my lid

I think there's a lot of negitivity towards it because your unaware of your surrounding i think to a degree its untrue. a good snowboarder keeps a rhythm when they are carving doesn't do unpredictable things.

I find it more the weekend warriors are the worst culperates and people who have poor mountain safety like stopping in places that they shouldn't. and cause a botel neck.

when I'm on my own i ride with music on, when im with people I ride with music on i have a mute button on my helmet so :D...

I dont really have an issue with it I've more an issue with who I ride with poor mountain safety no regard for other users that kinda thing
