DJ Furniture?

    HI Folks,

Finally doing some renovations in the house and I need to upgrade my current set up (Basically an old computer desk) to something more modern. The problem is I'm 6 foot+ so any commercially availble DJ furniture requires me to bend over on my back, which ain't the best. Is there anywhere in Ireland where you can walk in and try DJ desks etc? I've looked in the likes of IKEA etc before but there stuff isn't suitible. I'd prefer to be more specialised e.g. CD racks etc incorporated.

On a side note, any recommendations for a good set of plug and play speakers?

    Regards,

    ironclaw

Well I got my brother to weld me up four trestles, and then i bought eight planks of ten foot by eight inches across; fits two decks, a mixer, an amp, a laptop and serato rig and 2000 records very comfortably; i'm 6 foot 2 and on this setup the platters of the decks are just about at chest height; I can upload a picture or two later on if you like?

Cheaper than one of those pre-fab desk stands...

Argos sell a shelving unit that works well enough if you turn it on it's side, and if you have flightcases for your decks you can always boost the height of them that way by just putting the decks on top of the closed flightcase...

just a general question but wouldnt the average male be 6ft.id imagine the stands would cater to you.if they dont just get a few 2x4's and build it up

    I made my own.

    Here's a link to pics.

Works out cheaper plus you can customise to your own needs.

    I'm 6 foot + also

Thanks for all the replies folks. There is a carpenter in the family so I'll probably for that route. I'm 6'6". I can use most set ups, it just becomes a tad uncomfortable, especially leaning down to go through a CD case etc.

Thats a very neat set up by the way. Great workmanship. Might give IKEA another go when I'm out that way.

Cheers, but it's not that difficult. You get the sheets of laminate board in B&Q in various sizes and they'll cut them for you free of charge for the first few cuts and then for a nominal charge if you need any more.

You just need to sketch out the sizes you need cut beforehand. It's held together with standard screws and the shelves just sit on 4 nail on clips.

Each one just took a Saturday afternoon to make. All the work is done in the prep. It's easier than you'd imagine.

Regarding that post you made about your mixer, I have a Urei too (the one with the effects, not the one with the sampler that you have, and I can hear the eq's when I'm cueing... Are the two models that different?

You've mentioned this to me before, but yeah it's the same model. I dunno if it's just a fault with mine or if there's something I can switch internally that will fix it. (internally in the mixer that is!)

I knew I wasn't being mental. I emailed UREI this morning and just got this reply.
    Hi Barry,

The cue signals is PRE EQ. This is set in software. It is not possible to change. Clearly the mix may also be switched to the headphones in which case the EQ’d signal will be heard.

    Ian Rowe
Are you sure you can hear the EQ?

i made myself this the other day, cost me all of about 30 euro, got the wood in woodies, basically the legs are supposed to be used for square shelving you attach to a wall, you can make it longer then i have done, i just didnt need it any longer for the equipment i have, place it ontop of your existing computer desk, im 6 foot and its the perfect height for me, maybe even just slightly too high, have mates that are taller then me and its a nice height for them too, cheap and cheerfull
