Recruitment Freeze?

    Hello all,

I've had a good read through this board since discovering it a week ago and have found a wealth of useful information, so hopefully you guys can help me with a couple of queries :)

Myself and two friends are keen on joing the PSNI, another friend that has just started at Garnerville very recently said that in an induction talk all of the new recruits were told that after the next intake there would be a recruitment freeze for the next two or three years! Is there any truth in this? I'm hoping he said it just to needle us.

Also, regarding the 50% recruitment policy, how is an applicant's religion determined? One of us was born into one religious background, and attended a school predominantly (but not exclusively) of that religion but was a non-churchgoer. Within the last year (and to much contraversy in the family!) their religious affiliation has changed and is now a churchgoer. Will this affect an application in any way?

    Hi there

I'm afraid I don't know about any recruitment freeze. There are always rumours galore about future campaigns but to be honest I really don't think anyone knows for sure. There have been board members already had their induction day and started in GV and none of them have mentioned being told about a recruitment freeze. My induction day is next month so it'll be a while before I can tell you if it's mentioned or not.

As for the religious determination...you are categorised as RC if you put yourself as RC on the form and if you attended an RC primary school. Everyone else would be bunched in the non-RC group. I'm really not sure how they categorise people who attended Integrated schools but consider themselves RC . As for attending Church it doesn't come into it. It's all about what you were born and what school you attended rather than if you practise or not now.
Good luck, I hope there will be a campaign next year as a couple of my family members missed out this year by a couple of marks in the IST and can't wait for another chance!

Ta muchly for the reply. I can only hope that there will be another recruitment drive next April & in the meantime get myself totally physically and mentally fit!

Its expected that the next recruitment drive will be the final one in the current phase, i.e. 440 recruits per year. After that, i.e 2011 onwards, they expect to recruit perhaps only 40 to 50 per year. But who knows. Until it is officially announced there is really no way to say for sure.

That's what it is, next year will be the last 50/50 intake after that it'll be recruited by wastage like the gardai work. whoever retires or resigns will be replaced the service will stay at about 7500 members
