Looking for a bit of advice but also a cautionary tale. Bought a set of tyres for the wifes car from eiretyres good price etc. Bought tyres before and no problem. This time however the tyres were flat, and by that I mean they had been stacked improperly and would not inflate against the rim. Any ideas ! any help appreciated.

You should be able to get them to seat properly against the rim with a bit of persuasion.

Ive seen tyres from Eiretyres that are 3-4 years old. A tyre has a shelf life of about 5 years if its been on the road or not.

2 tricks to try. with the tyre off the wheel put a tube in it and inflate. leave it for a while till the walls stay apart better.
the other trick is to use the bead breaker on the tyre machine to push the bottom bead on to the rim this then leaves just the top bead to pull up while mounted on the tyre machine. will probably take 2 peopl. also make sure the core of the valve is out as it will allow the air in quicker.
    good luck

    Okay heres what to do.

    1) Mount the tyre on the rim

    2) Stand the rim and tyre in front of you with the back of the rim facing you. Before doing this insure that the valve is at the top most point and should be now facing away from you.

    3) Place both your hands on the top /front of the tyre and start to pull the tyre towards you while at the same time attempt to kick the bottom of the rim out through the tyre with your heel. If you hit it hard enough part of the bead of the tyre will mount the rim.

    4) Once part of the bead is mounted on the rear of the rim attach the air-line to the valve. ( insure the core is out of the valve) Allow the rim and tyre to rest back against one of your knees and start to pump in the air while at the same time try to push the front of the rim back into the tyre.

    5) If this does not work alone then kneel on the tyre at the same time directly over the valve. It can take 3 or 4 bounces until it finally catches.

    6) If this fails then roll up unfolded pages of a newspaper and soak them in water. Place the rolled up sheets into the gap between the tyre at the front of the rim and and repeat the proces above. When it inflates break down the front bead again and remove the newspaper. It should be very easy by then to re-inflate the tyre as the rear bead will still be mounted on the rim.

If all the above fails then try here http://www.goldenpages.ie/search/Tyres.html :D

    Hope it works.
