AFAIK members of AGS are asked if they are members of any political parties during recruitment. I was wondering if in the future I do consider a career in policing would it affect my application at all if I was also still a member of Sinn Féin. Although its the largest party in the north at the moment it is monitored at commemorations by SDU etc in the south. Does anyone think that there would be any issues at all?

you take an oath at attestation that states you will not be a member of a political organisation, so no you cannot be a member of sinn fein and a Garda, just like you can't be a member of Fianna Fail, Fine Gale, Labour, the Green Party etc etc etc.

Why would you be a member of a party that supports the killers of an organisation that you wish to join? Ferris can't even condemn the actions of those criminals.

your dead right foreign.....distance yourself as far away from them as possible.....the carry on of ferris is disgraceful and regardless of what the party says i doubt hewas acting on his own behalf.....expalin the homecoming party Sinn Fein had for the murderers......Make your decission but dont be a hypocrit

just because you support 'the policies' (eg 32 counties) of an organisation, does nt mean you support every act and decisions that the organisation every made !

I think there would be huge problems with your application. If you were still at member of any political party in applying you would have to resign from that party.

Im going to close this thread now, before it becomes an us and them thread and abuse starts to fly:D

O/P if you have any further questions PM me and i'll open it again.
