I was interested in the Serie A and Ligue 1. Has any channel picked these up yet?

Just seen ESPN are showing the Dutch,Portuguese and Russian leagues...
What a joke who is going to watch them...

I watched the Eredivisie on Setanta quite a lot - not every week, but I usually enjoyed it when I tuned it. I'll grant you that I found the few Portuguese matches that I tried to watch tedious, but I'll certainly give the Russian league a try.

As for the Italian league, personally I'm not that interested, but I'm amazed that no broadcaster seems willing to put it on air. Perhaps the Italian league has an exaggerated sense of the value of their matches, and ask too much for the rights?

But the Italian and French leagues are far bigger and have massive followings compared to Portugal and Russian leagues.

And probably cost too much or will clash with what they already have. Remember there will be one channel to show what they buy.

As far as I know, Italian rights are 2nd only to Premiership in terms of cost.

Asking too much at the moment I'm afraid.

Also on ESPN,live coverage from the German Bundesliga, with up to five live matches per week. Not bad. I would like the French L.

Also, wait for it, remainder of the current MLS season. :(

The most prestigious leagues in Europe are the English, Italian, Spanish and German ones and it will always be this way. Trying to make out that the Russian and Dutch leagues even come close is, quite frankly, total rubbish and ESPN won't be fooling anybody with that tactic. Maybe ESPN are just trying to get as much football on screen as quickly and cheaply as possible and are not too bothered about quality??
Personally I would much rather see Inter, Juventus, AC Milan etc. rather than 2 Russian teams that I've never heard of.

The Russian league runs throughout the summer months as well so maybe that may be part of the reason why they bought the rights.

    This is correct.

Apparently ESPN and SKY are going to share the rights.

i.e. Sky get Sundays, ESPN get Saturdays.

If an ESPN 2 does ever appear (and it might sometime along the way), I would hope ESPN would have the good sense not to refer to it as "The Deuce". Unless they plan on it being a tennis channel...

looking over on digitalspy still seems up in the air but if any of the uk broadcasters dont pick it up i wonder would setanta try bid for ireland- would be agood aquisition but their subscription would still have to come down to under 10euro at least
