    Seen alot of threads around Boards lately about Marketing jobs and just thought I'd tell you my story.

    <snip>
    • I started on an "observation day" after 2 days of interviews in which I was lead to believe it was an office job in which i'd be working in sales and advertising, and events. It was on this day I found out I'd be doing door to door sales
    • I thought about packing it in then my "trainer" took me for lunch which he paid for then proceeded to fill my head full of ****e about what he called "preformance based payment" when I said so its on commision he tells me well no not really, you are guaranteed to earn more than commision work.
    • He tells me I'm going to be making up to 80 euro a day. Then waffles on about how quick i get promoted and how much more money I'll make when I get to be a trainee manager....... No such luck.
    • In my first week my working hours went from 10;30-6:00 Mon till Fri, 10:30-7:30, Mon-Fri 10:30-8:30 Mon-Sat. They say Sat is optional but If you refuse to come in they grill you tell you ya have a bad attitude and make you feel awful about yourself.
    • My first week I made no more than 45 euro a day sometimes a fiver for 10 hours work. They make you feel awful, if I complained about the money they would say " You have a bad attitude" "You don't take the job seriously"
    • people I worked with become these mindless brainwashed zombies, using words like 100%effort and great attitude! They genuinely believe they will be running their own company in a year
    • Work consumes them all date people from work, the boss has people Living in his house:confused::eek: to show them how life can be with this job.Friday and Sat nights they all go out together on Crew Nights instead of with their friends
    • They sell awful quality products and tell their staff how amazing they are etc. They made me buy a dead sea skin treatment kit which they said would help my eczema yet it gave me my OH and respective family members rashes. When I sad this to them they went crazy, saying"" no no it must be something else. They teach you manipulation techniques in order to trick people into buying these dire products.
    • They make sure you develop a personal relationship with your trainer so that you feel guilty about quitting, my trainer constantly flirted with me and manipulated me into thinking the job was great.
    • Now to the "promotion" The second level a trainee manager. You must train new recruits, come in an hour earlier every day and leave an hour later. You get no extra money for this. They say you work 60-40 spilt 60 on the field 40 on the office but you don't get paid for your office days. When you take out new recruits you have to pay their bus fare and dinner and you get no extra money either. All you get with your promotion is an extra 1 euro on everything you sell.
    • The scary thing was I saw people dropping out of college, not going back to school etc for this piece of **** job. 2 girls dropped out of medicine in trinity and my trainer was an architecht who was turning down jobs. They all really believe its the greatest oppertunity ever, they truly think what they are doing is great not un-eithical, selling things tested on animals an made in sweat shops. Telling people it will treat acne and eczema when it makes it worse, they refuse toaccept the bad things about their products.
    • Now to Quitting. they make you feel terrible when you quit, its your fault not the **** money. People wont talk to you cause you have a bad attitude not because you ae disturbing people at their doors. You don't take work seriously and have no work ethic etc.
    • The company website is a total fraud when I checked out and researched I found out they were previously gallop marketing and changed their name so that you can't find the bad publicity!
    DO NOT take these jobs. Its just not worth it. it breaks you down for feck all cash. They prey on young, Naive students who prob have no choice job wise. Stay away they are toxic!

    As some poster said in another thread, it's another version of a Pyramid Scheme.

    I went to the interview and second interview for one of these jobs with the now defunkt <snip> marketing in cork.

    I walked out of the second interview when I realised it was door to door marketing.

    I blame it on Scientology. All these brainwash scheme's can be traced back there.
