LDR - Can this really work?

    Hi,

I'm currently in a LDR with my gf. We were friends for some time before we entered into a relationship, and it was only when she was due to head home after studies that we really hit it off. We decided that we wanted to be together- with the knowledge that we would not see each other for weeks at a time, and with both of our current work committments, this could be the case for the next 2 years or so, so either her moving here or me moving to her will not be an option in this timeframe.

I think it's early stages for us yet, we have been together properly for about 8 months or so. But to be honest, I'm finding that as time goes by i'm finding the LDR a little bit more difficult. It's not that I don't want to be with her (because I really do, and i know she wants to be with me), it's just that theres only so much that Skype and MSN can bring to a relationship. I miss her at times and just wish that I could be with her with much more convenience than having to go onto aerlingus. com to book a flight.

Basically, I'm just wondering can this really work? I'm not a negative person, and i want this to work. But I just feel at times, that if we continue in an LDR, could it mean that we end up getting frustrated with the circumstances of our relationship? (the distance between us, travelling etc). Ive also read in a previous thread that it's sometimes common for people in LDRs to fall for someone more 'local'. Is this always the case?

Any input about this would be much appreciated, thanks.

    Hey op
Yes it will work only if you truely put your heart into it tho and give it everything you can. It is fustrating in many ways, you get fed up of sitting in front of your computer, sick of texting, you plan to go visit and something happens, and it is fustrating emotionally and sexually also. But that moment that you see them you fall back in love again - well i do anyway - im also in a LDR granted i dont have to click aerlingus.com but it is still a LDR.
I find that talking about your feelings and been open with each other helps everything. We talk and text every day and never run out of things to say to each other.
As for the falling for someone locally - no - cant imagine myself with anyone else i love my boyfriend too much.
Love is strong, love endures and where it does so does hope - heard this on mistresses the other night very true saying.
Give it time and patience and you never know maybe ye are stronger than you think
