This sounds pretty basic, but yet to come across a simplistic 3D plant software package. Something like MS Visio except with Air Compressors, Chillers, pipes, HVAC ...etc.... .

There are a fair few 2D packages but looking for 3D and not going down the route of ProEng or CAD type packages, just something with templates and drag-drop function.

    Anyone any ideas or suggestions.

    Cheers

would google sketchup be any use ? - assuming somebody has made a library of stuff and put it out there, or make your own.

Cheers bud - I have utilized google sketchup before but getting consistency is annoying, depends on who originally drew up the 3d graphic. Just hoping there was something nice and handy out there

If you want a cheap 3d cad package try cadposolutions in Clare, I'd say they are giving it away at the moment, I know maintenance is negotiable and they have a structured payment plan. 3dcontentcentral.com for all standard parts from many companies will cover anything you need i guess.
If you want to take a really cheap option, try alibre, there is a thread on here about it somewhere, I played with it and for basics its perfect. Cheap and very low maintenance. 3dcontentcentral allows downloads of files in .iges and a few other formats, I suspect for alibre you will be looking at .iges, but its free.
