Medical query for someone with trapped nerve

I need urgent medical advice regarding someone who is currently suffering from a trapped nerve. She has been suffering from it for the past 4 weeks and has already been to a Consultant to confirm her condition and he has referred her to another Consultant. The problem is she is in severe pain and treatment with the next Consultant will not be available for another 7 days as he is on holidays. In the meantime the patient is going out of her mind with the pain.My questions are as follows;Could her GP refer her to another Consultant seeing the current guy is on annual leave, surely these guys have cover when they go on annual leave? There seems to be no end to the pain and after 4 weeks of this suffering the time has come for action. Another week is too long to leave this person waiting. In the short term is there any effective way to manage the pain as the current medication is useless? When I say pain, this person is howling with the pain – no exaggeration here. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm sorry your friend is in such pain.
I'm not going to give advice about what to do, as it's inappropriate to do so on the internet.
If I may, though, please let me give a little 'what not to do' advice.

Please, tell the patient not to exceed the stated dose on any prescription and/or over the counter painkillers they may be taking already, especially if they contain Paracetamol. If you don't know if a medicine contains Paracetamol, ASK.
Taking higher doses will not give better pain relief, and may cause serious and permanent damage.

Sorry I can't give more constructive advice.

    L-M.

(ps: Mods; Is a post like this one permitted in the forum?)

I think the only person who can answer your question regarding getting another consult, is the physician in question.

Regarding pain management, we don't allow such advice here.

I'll lock this until a local mod gets here.
