Surely you could shove some music etc. on to an external harddrive, i use the new seagate freeagent 320gb which is constantly plugged in, handy as it doesnt require an external power source, uses only one usb port

    I could but:

Money and power (it is a laptop I can't waste battery - even when plugegd into a socket)

it has a spin down or sleep mode to save power, check out the 250gb version on komplett.ie its only €73 http://www.komplett.ie/k/search.aspx?q=freeagent, or ebay can be your trusted friend :)

Is that what your hard drive's Get Info window says?

The OS itself uses up about 4-5GB. And then the various library folders can get quiet big. My root Library folder is 18GB! lol, I should probably have a look at that.

ye that is what get info says.

okay cool that accounts for another 5 gb.

what is in the library folder? is it all needed? (14.5 gb in my library folder)

    thanks!

Try using this to determine what takes up space unnecessarily. You can drill down or look at aggregates on various folders.
