    Evening all,

As a civil engineer I have an ambition to set up my own engineering consultancy. I have a fair idea of the type of work I'd be generally involved in however I would be interested to hear the the perception you guys have on what types of work you would expect to be carried out in a small engineering consultancy??

I run a small energy consultancy. All the work I have every got (and I've been doing this for 3 years) has come from connections. So... have you been working on your connections?

Also it is very easy to spend all your time working on projects which "should" come to something, particularly in this climate. Beware!

Finally small consultancys are attractive to small developers/people who don't hire consultants much. These people have a hard time appreciating the value of your work... Careful!

Otherwise... best thing I ever did!

    Hi Jack_Flash,
What area of civil engineering would you hope to specialise in? - I'm not an engineer, although, to my understanding their are several speciliast disciplines- Structural and so forth.
Also - Are you considering International consultancy?- A synopsis of your objectives/vision - then I would be able to provide you with my perception, alternatively "work you would expect to be carried out in a small engineering consultancy??"- competitors information will answer this for you.
Look forward to hearing on your progress.
