Sig Sauer P226/P229 which one to buy?

I'm looking to buy an airsoft Sig Sauer P226 or 229, preferably full metal, gas operated. I was just wondering which is the best as in accuracy or reliability etc. I've looked at Cybergun and KJ works. Price isn't so much an issue.

Any suggestions as to a best buy?

Get the KJWs, I have both and there is little between them. The 229 can use 226 and 229 mags which is a bit of a plus.

I slightly prefare the 229, for overall size, weight. Just feels a bit better in the hand the way it balances.

The cybergun is the KJ works model, the only difference being the trade marks on it. overall its a solid reliable pistol but mag leaks are quite common. its only a matter of replacing the bottom seal and nothing serious.
Theres the TM too but its plastic and the blowback isnt nearly as strong.

PS, forgot to mention, both the P226 and P228 from KJ or cybergun are the same gun bar the length of the slide and barrel. neither gun will be any more or less reliable than the other so it comes down to what you prefer the look of. :)

Never knew that about Cyber Gun having the trades. I have a KJW 229 with trades and the other without and they are the same in every way apart from the trades.

Must be like the KWA KSC thing with KSC having all the trades on their guns.

yeah kinda similar, the early KJ's had trades on them then when they started supplying cybergun they produced their own without trades. cybergun probably putting pressure on them since it would be a sizable contract and all.
If you look underneath the cybergun's magazine it actually has KJ Works mounded into it.

Thanks guys, sounds good. I like the idea of having trades on it. After all what's the point of a replica if it isn't actually a replica. Capn chaos, if you don't mind where did you get the KJ 229 with trades and would it be cheaper than the cybergun version?

Edit thanks masada, you answered the question, one minute between posts. Yes the cybergun website did have some comment about piracy so it's a big deal for them.

The 229 with trades, I got second hand but you can get them here.

The non trade marked versions are the same price, in other retailers or very similar.

Tm p226 without a doubt... reliable, lasting, and utterly great performance and recoil.

Sure its not metal, but it wont fail like some KJs ive seen... correction, most kjs.

Just to throw in that Kj are now doing "revised design" mags with are supposed to have overcome the leaks issue and from what i've seen of the ones i have, they have. No leaks yet and they're seen heavy use in my Kj P226( which has never failed me once), no leaks from the mag that came with it either

The very first airsoft gun I got was a KJW P226, got it in November 2006 and its still going strong and the mag that came with it is fine aswell. I have had one mag that had a leaky o ring though, not bad out of around 10 mags between 3 sigs.

Thats BS in fairness, of the whole range of pistols tony sells its probably the biggest seller with the lowest failure rate. KJ sigs are rock solid.

oh, on a side note, TM sigs and M9s of late have had what looks like super glue on the bottom seal as opposed to grease, this means not only is the seal knackered and leaky, but you'll have a hell of a job cleaning it all off before installing the new seal. god knows why they did that.

My KJW P226 is my favourite pistol and am planning on buying a P229 in the near future. It does not have trads
but trads are overated when it comes to airsoft when you
have guns with trads that look like they have been painted with tip-ex/white out rather than stamped trads.

(2nd favourite pistol in my WA hybrid)

Out of all my airsoft gear the P226 is the one GBB pistol
where I have had real steel shooters that own Real P226's/P229s'
compare both side by side only to be astonished at how
    realistic the Airsoft version is.

Personally as much as TM have a good name, Ive never liked the brand when it comes
to pistols or AEG's Sure the internals may be great, and the externals have a good finish but
at the end of the day way too much plastic for my tastes. I love my full metal stuff.
(grand for old school stuff but probably not ideal for more modern copies of real steel modern firearms)

My opinions on gear though is biased towards a collector based view point on looks and feel as a priority though
and not functionality! A dedicated skirmisher may have different opinions.

have to aggree witht he lad here, probably the best clone GBB manufacturer, id definitely reccomend them as a starter gun, especially the P226, not to my liking, id rather a P228 any day but, solid, dependable, heavy and realistic.
P229 is a nice compact-ish version and is a tidy piece.

It was the first GBB i fired and i remember thinking all GBBs would be like that so straight on to ehobby i went and bought a dirty WE 1911....talk about a disappointment from the moment i opened the wrapping.

As bullets said realistism is what matters, its airsoft not paintball or capgun.

Just came across this. Does Cybergun do a 229 with trades? And if so who has them, spare mags as well?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 405 ✭✭cpb

Hobbyairsoft do the P229 not sure about spare mags but would guess that they do as I got one for my M9 off them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,174 ✭✭✭✭Captain Chaos

Yeah, hobbyairsoft and eirsoft sell P229 mags, if you are stuck, P226 mags work aswell, they just stick out an extra 10mm for the grip.

Sorry I dont think this is the case the mags are not interchangeable.Could be a costly mistake to buy the wrong one.

I'll post a pic of my P229 with P226 mag if you want.

I know they changed the models slightly about a year ago.I have no doubt what your saying with your own is true however on the most recent models from KJ the mags are not interchangeable.Honest!

My 226 is an '06 model and the two 229s are '08 models. My various mags all look the exact same where it counts. Unless KJ changed the design slightly when they were fixing the leak issues. I'll take your word for it but I have not come across problems swaping mags around so far.

I've read your posts over time and i know you know your s***.I can only speak for the KJ models from Cybergun.
Just tried a couple and they wont switch.

Have to eat humble pie.Your absolutely right.
A few guys with me here said you were wrong untill a moment ago one piped up with 'cause the mag doesn't sit properly'.
    Apologies!

Well my P226 arrived as advertised. Practised on the cardboard delivery box as soon as I could. Nice and accurate. The box is now dead. Impressed with the feel of and weight of it, not to mention the slight kick. Having fired real handguns it compares very well in look and feel although the real thing gets warmer not colder:)

I've got the kj works 226 and its just spent 2 weeks in the mud up @ red barn and its working fine,it does get cold when you put a few rounds through, and when I put a lot through(5 or 6 mags on rapid fire) it simply vents all the gas in the mags, I let it warm up again and its fine.Hope this helps.
