Hi, buying a BMW 520i but it has been jump started (repo) and the needs to be reset according to the seller as there are warning lights on on dash etc. Does this have to go to a garage for diagnostic or is there another way to "reset". If it needs to go to a garage can anyone recommend a garage in the north Kildare, Westmeath, Longford areas for this job on a BMW or is it main dealer only.

Tell the seller to send it off to be serviced and get the codes cleared. Ask for a printout of them and then take it for a spin - then get the diagnostic kit hooked up again and make sure:
    a) the warnings have been cleared
    b) they haven't recurred

Any mechanic with the diagnostic kit will be able to clear the codes

I'd have the seller do this before parting with any money.

You could also try disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes, then reconnectiong it again.
