Boredom is a dangerous thing - spent some time on Boards this morning and realised I NEEDED to remap my car! :D

    I've sent out a few emails got a response from i-remap 30BHP increase to 240BHP - €300.

I've also sent out a few emails to others i.e. tunemyecu.com but not a sausage back.

Will wait awhile for the others to come back, but looking forward to getting this done. :D

I take it you're out of warranty? I've been thinking similar thoughts myself, but not before my warranty's up.

Nope - approx 1.5 years to go. But the main dealer I bought it off of recommended getting it chipped. He said he did it with his.

Shure, what could go wrong! ;)

I'd be very iffy about that. In fact, i'd want it in writing that my warranty would be unaffected.

There are some tuners that have a good rep for mapping alfas - I think Angel Tuning are one - best to ask over on www.alfaowner.com

Don't think they'd be too interested in coming over for a single remap and from what I've seen on alfaowner there's only lukewarm interest in getting other members to commit.

There's only 6 months left on the full warranty and another 12 months limited warranty. They will return the ECU back to standard (once) if requested.

Unless your engines goes pop in the middle of nowhere and the AA tows you to the nearest Alfa dealership.....
Look into a bluefin unit - you can add and remove maps yourself. Superships and the bigger names in the UK use them - not 100% if cover alfa but definitely do GM diesels - same engine

I remapped my SAAB 9-3 with a PPC - which basically means you have control to remap and reset to OEM at will. Unfortunately they don't do Alfas.

Would like this control for sure!

    Will look into bluefin.

*edit* Bluefind don't do Alfas - Superchips do, but not my model (have emailed them)

Just to clarify, Bluefin is a handheld device that plugs into your diagnostic post and is sold by the likes of Superships.
Have a look on alfaowner - they'll give more advice....

Have you looked at Spider diesel tuning? Come highly recommended and was considering them for the GT when warranty expired but car is now sold

Autodelta remaps can be ( or used to be) able to be arranged at Grandons. Angel tuning come down to cork the odd time. alfaowner is your friend...

Are there much gains in remapping the current 1.8 alfa 159? Anyone any idea what that engine is like?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,413 ✭✭✭HashSlinging

Naturally aspirated engines do not respond to remapping like turbo petrol or diesels. Your going to have to go down the route of adding a super charger or something if you want gains like 30 - 40 bhp.

I'm open to correction, but isn't there rarely much point in remapping normally aspirated petrol engines?

FWIW, the place where I got my JTD GT remapped (Autoremap.com) doesn't list many petrol Alfa's (other than the GTAs and V6s) in their database-I'm surprised they list the 147 2.0TS.

That's what I thought. Anyone driven a 1.8, am interested in what people think of it.

Anyone ever tell their insurance company about the car modifications ? ;)
